So last week...this happened about 1/2 a mile from my house.

Police arrested a 38-year-old man in Atchison

WINTHROP, Mo. -- An 18-year-old woman was in critical condition after her throat was slashed during a robbery. It happened Thursday night in Winthrop, Missouri, about an hour drive north of the metro.

Captain Judd said Sean Cave, 38, slashed the throat of the 18-year-old clerk while robbing the convenience store. It all happened just before 8 p.m. Thursday in the small Missouri town just across the river from Atchison, Kansas.

Atchison Police and Sheriff's deputies caught Cave and Captain Judd said Cave starting slashing himself with a knife. Police got him treatment then took him to jail.

The Sheriff's Department said this may have ended differently if it hadn't been for the customers who came in the store right after it happened.

"Were it not for their involvement, we would have not been able to first of all get aid to her as quickly as we did and secondly we wouldn't have been able to make the arrest as quickly as we did," Capt. Judd said.

Cave faces first degree assault, robbery and armed criminal action charges in Buchanan County, Missouri and in Atchison, Kansas. The Sheriff's Department said he's also charged with possession of cocaine.

Buchanan County law enforcement also said Cave is a registered sex offender in Kansas and was recently paroled for indecent solicitation of a child.

They found the guy a block east of my house. He had slit her throat from ear to ear and stabbed her several times. I was actually headed to that store while they were out looking for him. We saw the "special forces" unit riding in full black ensemble in the back of a truck (that's how we do it in A-town..hah!) past my house, and up the alley. I drive over the bridge to go to the Stop N Go and they have caution tape up and there are countless police vehicles. I just want to know why he isn't being charged with attempted murder. If you cut someone ear to ear...there's a pretty small chance they'll live. Luckily, she's still alive.

In other news, I have poison ivy again. It's annoying but I'm taking steroid pills for it again. It is starting to clear up, finally. Now I've just got to figure out a way to get it out of my backyard for good so I can actually work out there without feeling like I have the herp for 2 weeks afterward. =p

Aaaaaaaaand finally....it is hotter than the blazes of hell today. I think we've finally hit our summer stride as far as heat goes. It has been pretty mild lately (78 degrees in late June?!?!), but I think our streak is over. Welcome to hell.
