Warnings: Puck cries.
Finn figured that Puck had some kind of reverse filter in his brain. Instead of taking out anything that might have been offensive it added terrible things to everything he said. Instead of “I’m not comfortable with this” he’d say, “That’s gay.” If he wanted to say, “You’re over-sharing” he’d say, “You’re such a girl.”
Finn could remember a time before that though. When Puck didn’t exist yet and his friend Noah was always with him. Noah wouldn’t have had sex with Quinn or kissed Rachel. Noah wouldn’t have let Finn believe that he was the father of a baby that wasn’t his.
Finn wasn’t the smartest of men, but he knew that he wasn’t happy with Puck. He wanted Noah back. If pressed he would probably have said that Puck wanted Noah back as well.
He had no idea how to go about helping Puck become Noah again. Finn knew that he needed help. So he asked the smarter people in his life for their opinions.
Artie looked at Finn like he’d just declared himself the king of Jupiter. “I don’t really know how to help you with that Finn. Maybe you could try doing things together that you did when you were kids?”
Finn briefly considered this advice and then discarded it. He didn’t think that a Power Rangers marathon and hot pockets were the answer to his problems.
Tina smiled at him sweetly as he explained. “I would just say to talk to him about it Finn. Just let him know that you miss your friend and you want things to go back to normal. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the effort.”
Finn imagined the black eye he’d be nursing if he bluntly told Puck that he needed to stop being a jerk-face and decided that Tina’s advice was a little too straight-forward.
Santana stared at him for a full minute and then laughed at him until he walked away. Brittney came bouncing up to him a few seconds later and mentioned over hearing him. Her advice was to come on Fondue for Two and declare his never-ending bro love for Noah.
He declined, telling her that webcams ate his uncle. He would regret that fib later. She sent him on the way with a gentle shoulder pat.
Kurt’s eyebrow nearly shot off of his head when Finn told him the dilemma. He suggested dropping Puck in favor of Sam.
Finn filed it away as a backup plan.
His final stop was Rachel Berry. He still couldn’t sort out his feelings for her, but if anyone knew how to get what they wanted it was her.
Instead of approaching her at school he offered a ride home after glee. She accepted with a smile. As soon as they were safely in the car he broached the subject.
“I need to ask you a question.” He said, staring at the road resolutely.
Rachel turned her head to the left and smiled a sad little smile. “While I believe that I’ll always have feelings for you Finn, I truly believe that I should be concentrating on my career at this point.”
Finn shook his head as she finished. “No, it’s not about that. It’s about Puck.”
Rachel’s eyes widened momentarily. He couldn’t tell if it was surprise or disbelief. “Sure Finn, what can I help you with.”
“Puck’s been an ass for the past two years. Ever since he decided that we should all call him Puck instead of Noah. I really miss him though, and I need help figuring out how to make him be Noah again instead of Puck.”
Rachel looked alarmed. “You know that Puck and Noah are the same person, right Finn?” She asked trying to sooth him.
“I know, I just want him to act like he did before. When we were happy.”
“Okay Finn. I’m sure we can figure this out together. Just don’t let it distract you from preparing for sectionals. This year is our last chance to win at Nationals. Call your mother and let her know that you’re going over to my house for dinner. We’ll start planning as soon as we get there.”
Rachel had 22 plans drawn up by dinner time. Her dads watched with amusement as the two of them debated the relative merits of each at the dinner table.
“Finn, I’m telling you number nineteen is foolproof. If you date Santana you’re certain to draw a little jealousy from Puck. You can then use that as leverage to get him to open up to you again.”
“Rachel, I can’t date Santana. I’d get confused and say the wrong thing and she’d cut me. That and I don’t think that she really likes me much.”
“Well that means we can ditch numbers twenty and twenty-one as well. Twenty-two is kind of far fetched though.”
“Well, what is it? If it’s all we’ve got left we’ll have to build from there or start fresh.”
“Just make sure you let me explain it before you shoot it down Finn.”
“Okay.”
“Promise me.”
“Fine Rachel, I promise to listen to your plan before I shoot it down.”
She gave him a searching look and opened the last folder. He could see that it consisted of only one line.
“Are you ready?” She asked, looking as though she wasn’t.
“Sure,” Finn said. “Let’s get this over with.”
Rachel looked down to the paper and read one line.
“Seduce Puck.”
It was good that it was only the one line. He wouldn’t have been able to hear anything after over the roaring in his ears anyway. Finn could see that Rachel was still speaking but couldn’t make out any words.
Finn realized that Rachel was going to keep on talking until he gave her a response. His high-pitched “What” sounded like it should have been coming from Kurt’s mouth rather than his own.
Rachel did that thing where her smile dims a little and then comes back brighter. “Look at it this way Finn. Puck is a sexual creature. Maybe if you connect with him on that level you’ll be able to connect with him in the way that you’re talking about.”
Finn shook his head hard enough to make his neck hurt. “No, no, no. I’m not gay Rachel. Puck isn’t either. What the hell am I supposed to do, invite him to play video games with me and then throw over a condom and some lotion?”
“You know that you shouldn’t be using lotion as a lubricant right? I know you’re not gay Finn, but I’ve seen the way you look at Puck. Can you honestly tell me that you’ve never thought about him like that?”
“What? I... Maybe. I was just curious. I mean, who hasn’t thought about what it might be like. It doesn’t mean that I want to get fucked.”
“I didn’t say that the two of you had to engage in anal intercourse Finn. I think that frottage would suit the plan nicely.”
After a short explanation of what frottage was Finn realized that Rachel’s dads were still sitting across from them. The blush that realization pulled from him burned like fire. “Oh God, I’m so sorry. I forgot that the two of you were sitting there. Ummm, please don’t tell my mom?”
The darker Mr. Berry gave him a comforting smile. The other seemed to be holding back laughter. “Don’t worry about it Finn. We’re just happy that you’re not trying to seduce our Rachel.” Mr. Berry the darker said. “If you do decide to do anything with Noah promise that you’ll call us or Rachel for help with the mechanics. You could get hurt or hurt him if you don’t know what you’re doing.”
Finn mumbled an agreement and started to shovel vegan nut-loaf into his mouth. It wasn’t his favorite food, but it beat the alternative of discussing the ins-and-outs of gay sex with his ex-girlfriend’s two dads.
So that was how Finn ended up standing on Puck’s porch at eight at night on a Friday. He knocked and waited. When Puck opened the door Finn’s carefully planned speech about friendship and being bros dried up on his lips. Instead he heard himself saying, “I want to have sex with you.”
….....
Puck had been in a lot of fucked up situations in his life. Starting with the day his dad left and continuing on to last week when that chick had pulled out kiddie pajamas and asked him to wear them. All of those situations, every fucked up thing that had ever happened had nothing on this moment. His best friend was standing on his porch and asking to have sex with him.
Puck felt something inside of him break. There were parts of his life that he tried to keep Finn out of. The pool cleaning business that could more honestly be described as whoring himself out. Empty orgasms and cash were Puck’s business. Finn had been one of the few things in his life that wasn’t tainted by that.
He accepted that was over now. This was what he was. People wanted him to be a hard cock and a warm body. This was what he would always be. So he smirked back at the taller boy.
“No one can resist his bod bro.”
Puck grabbed Finn by the forearm and led him to his bedroom. He was dying inside. They would both get off. Then they’d never talk again. Puck would lose his best friend and have nothing left. His baby was gone. His baby’s mother couldn’t even look at him without weeping. His mother thought that he was a screw-up. All he had was Finn and he was going to destroy that now.
He briefly thought about telling Finn his normal price to shock him but decided against it. They were both going to pay for this. Cash had nothing to do with it.
…...
Once they reached the bedroom Puck turned and asked Finn, “How do you want to do this.” Finn didn’t have an answer. He didn’t have the slightest idea of what to do. His mouth worked while he tried to form words.
Puck rolled his eyes and Finn knew he was about to say something mocking. So he cut him off with a kiss. It was awkward at first. Finn was surprised by how soft Puck’s lips were and intrigued by the feel of stubble against his chin.
He wasn’t expecting to enjoy the kiss. He really wasn’t expecting Puck to pull away and start sobbing like his heart was breaking. Finn watched the smaller man curl into himself on the be and wondered what he was supposed to do. How the fuck was he supposed to make this better?
TBC.
