so nc state beat maryland... very satisfying win: it was at home senior day, clinched a winning season and bowl eligibility, it was over hated maryland, and it kept hated maryland from going to a bowl... yeah, that feels good. if (when) state gets a bowl invite, i sure hope the fans actually go... they need to earn a reputation as a team that travels well, and you never know if/when they'll get to go to another bowl game, but most of all i want to know if the fans that booed their team off the field against clemson are really ready to support them again... with how happy everyone is around here, it's easy to forget how eager everyone was to throw chuck under the bus just 6 weeks ago...
so virginia tech beat unc... luckily i didn't get to see the first half, but still a very satisfying win: it was at home on senior day, clinched the "tech" division title and a berth in the first acc championship game, it was over hated (by me) unc, and it kept hated (by me) unc from going to a bowl... yeah, that feels good, too. not a single writer or talking head is giving fsu a chance, and vegas opened tech as a 14 point favorite, so of course i'm really nervous. the hokies 0-9 against bobby bowden (including his time at west virginia), but this will be the first time that tech has the better team...
on a related note... when it looked like fsu would play miami for the title, i thought the championship game format was unfair... supposing fsu won that game, then how fair would it be for a team with 3 losses to win the championship over a team (vt) with 1 loss and a team (miami) whose only losses came to one other team? well now that tech is in the title game, i feel a little better about the situation (coincidence?). if fsu wins, they will at least have beaten both other schools, but it still seems unfair to tech and miami...
when we moved to the acc, i was sure that our basketball team would never finish high enough in the conference to play in the acc/big 10 challenge... whaddaya know, we finished 4th last year, so we get to play ohio state tonight... the game starts at 7:30, and i'm sure marc s.p. and i will be somewhere watching... lemme know if you wanna join us...
the crapitals were on the losing end of the longest shootout in the young history of nhl shootouts... i wouldn't feel bad about it because it was one of the most ridiculously amazing goals i have ever seen! what does make me feel bad is that the guy who made that amazing shot was a defenseman who had only scored 4 goals...
oh, and the redskins officially suck again...
