Disasters averted....

A massive typhoon was headed for the country, and passed over us at about 3 AM. Howling wind, which was fun, and now it's just overcast and drab outside. So, once again, no worries from weather.

But there's another disaster that's probably not going to happen - APOPHIS! Yes, the big-ass rock that had a good chance of smacking into us and ending modern civilization in 2036 now has less of a chance of wiping us out. The first time it'll come by will be April 13, 2029 (a Friday, no less), and it's not going to hit us on that day. But it'll get close.

The fun thing about APOPHIS! is that if it passes by Earth at just the right distance, it'll loop around again and slam into us on April 13, 2036. The odds there have been reduced from 1:45,000 to 1:250,000. So that's good news. If you were thinking of maxing out your credit card before the End of the World, you might want to re-evaluate your plan.
