Let's go over this again....

If you murder someone because you respect life, then you're doing it wrong.I'm not nearly caffeinated enough to write a cogent response to this event other than to turn around the old anti-death penalty slogan: why murder people to show that murdering people is wrong? Mind you, I don't think abortion is murder, so the analogy kind of falls apart ( Read more... )

abortion, facepalm, murder

I have read so many heart breaking accounts of women who wanted to have kids-- many of whom grappled with years of infertility-- who were ecstatic to get pregnant, and then absolutely crushed to find out that their precious, already loved baby was either nonviable or already dead and they were past 12 weeks gestation.

They're then left with the option of waiting to see if the body will spontaneously go into labor before the dead baby starts rotting, try to induce labor (which isn't comfortable. induced labor is hella stronger than "natural" labor), schedule a Cesarean (MAJOR abdominal surgery) or have a late-term abortion. It's an absolutely heart breaking decision that no person should have to make. And once made, those who elect the late-term abortion then often have to travel to another state where late term abortions are legal, and have it performed in a strange city surrounded by strangers and recover in a distant and lonely hotel room instead of their own bed.

But, you know, THINK OF THE BAYBEEEEEEES. If women have access to late term abortions, they'll get pregnant solely to have them! Because they are dirty amoral whores who don't respect life! Or something.

That's the problem with trying to base law and policy purely on moral judgment instead of practicality - it doesn't allow for nuance, special circumstances or otherwise gray-shaded areas of the issue.

And since you can't bend your rigid moral code for special circumstances, all women who get late-term abortions, regardless of their reasons, must ipso facto quid pro quo QED be baby-killing whores. I suspect the effort required to silence the voice that says, "But what if you're wrong?" is what drives people nuts.

And you're right - if late-term abortions were freely available, hell, girls would be lining up around the block to get one! They're such fun and all the cool kids are doing it! Damn my sex - if only I were a woman! *sigh*

Let me tell you. As a woman, I know that I'd MUCH rather chose a late term abortion, you know, after I can feel the baby move and I've started gaining weight and having hormone fluctuations and lots of morning sickness and my boobs start gearing up milk production, over an early abortion any day. And abortions are so much fun that I'd much rather have one that use any kind of contraceptive, which is just so boring and mundane.

You're really missing out. If only you had a uterus someone could scrape clean of unwanted fetal tissue/built up uterine lining! It's kind of like having the world's best cake with a side of really good brandy. The whole "having to pass through people verbally assaulting you and threatening you with violence" is the ICING on that cake.

You know, you've sold me - I'm going to go out and get myself a black market uterus right now, got get preggers and get ready for this roller-coaster ride of fun!
