Bishop William Weigand, former Catholic Bishop and current head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento is standing by the Mormon Church's opposition to human rights."Catholics stand in solidarity with our Mormon brothers and sisters in support of traditional marriage--the union of one man and one woman--that has been the major building block of Western Civilization for millennia.
Except for that short time when your Mormon brothers and sisters were tinkering with the one man, many women model, of course. And since when were the Catholic Church and the LDS all buddy-buddy, anyway? Shouldn't they be considered, I dunno, massive heretics, damned for all eternity?
I shouldn't be surprised, of course. The Catholic Church - a few small splinter groups excepted - would probably be happy if gays and lesbians all just vanished.
Anyway, this isn't over. If there's one thing the supporters of Gay and Lesbian rights know how to do, it's organize. Twenty-five years of HIV/AIDS has guaranteed that.... Perhaps Prop 8 will get things rolling.
