Patience pays off....

By now we've all heard of this woman, Ashley Todd:

She claimed on Thursday that she had been attacked at an ATM and robbed. According to her story, the robber - whom she described as a large black man - saw that she had a McCain/Palin sticker on her car, became enraged and started beating her. His final attack was to carve a backwards "B" into her face.

Someone being beaten up at an ATM isn't unusual, and it's not beyond the realm of possibility for the robber to be politically aware. So I didn't want to jump on this and say what I was thinking, which was "SHE MADE IT UP!" This was a good decision, in that it showed restraint and tact, and gave another human being the benefit of the doubt. This was a bad decision in that I can't rightly say "I told you so."

Yes, she faked the whole thing. The backwards "B" was very suspicious, of course - what kind of robber would be politically aware enough to become enraged at a McCain/Palin sticker, yet illiterate enough not to know how to write the letter B? And why B? If I were to carve a letter into someone's face to remind her who she should vote for, I would have carved an "O." I imagine it's slightly faster and easier, and it even still makes sense when you do it to yourself in a mirror.

The police took her story seriously, investigated it, and found no evidence of an attack. She eventually confessed. She wanted to be the one to throw the Willie Horton into this election, and she got caught because she was stupid.

Now my question, and the question I'm sure a lot of other people are asking: who, if anyone, put her up to this? Was this her own crackbrained idea, or was she doing someone's bidding? I have my suspicions, but I am an incurable cynic, so we'll have to wait and see. If she was following orders, it'll come out very soon....

Regardless, she's now entered political history, and like Joe the Plumber her private life is now gone, gone, gone....

stupid, election 2008
