We obey no one!
The IRS can go screw itself! At least that was the message, when 33 pastors across the country broke a fairly simple tax law, set in 1954: If a church wants to keep its tax-exempt status, they will not endorse candidates from the pulpit. Simple. You want to advise your flock after services? Sure. Want to push for McCain at the church barbecue? Go right ahead. Want to call voting for Obama "moral schizophrenia" in the middle of your sermon? Woah there, Pastor Blabbermouth....
But these guys think that they should be able to say what they want, when they want, and still keep their tax exemptions. Y'know, because whether it's boy-buggery or political advocacy, some priests seem to have trouble holding to earthly laws. So expect to see a legal battle ensue. If all goes as planned, there'll be 33 churches that are about to get taxed right up the ass.
Which is good because we can use the money.
