High Court sides with Guantanamo detainees again The Supreme Court has decided, 5-4, that foreign suspects at Gitmo have the right to challenge their detention in civilian court. Again. Each time they did this, the military or Congress try to find another way to get around it, but I'm hoping this time it sticks.
I know there may be nefarious criminals in Gitmo, people who want nothing more than to see our degenerate nation fall and crumble. Fortunately for them, our degeneracy includes equal treatment under the law, regardless of what you are charged of. The fact that we can maintain that principle, even under the threat of death and destruction, proves that our nation is strong indeed.
Or, in the words of Justice Anthony Kennedy, "The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times."
Damn right.
So - charge 'em, have trials, and punish the guilty. That's how we do things.
