When we got to work yesterday, we discovered that our Corporate Masters have discovered that they can use a carrot as well as a stick.
Students who were signed up under Old NOVA got a deep discount when they signed up for New NOVA - 75% I believe. Now a lot of those folks are coming to the end of their lesson packages, and the company would really like them to re-sign at full price. So, from now until August, the company is running a little competition. The top three sales branches will get a four-day trip to Bali for all instructors and staff. Fourth through sixth place get to go for a two day trip to an onsen at Izu.
This is really remarkable, I have to tell you. The traditional attitude towards hard work has been, "You should feel lucky that we let you keep working here, you lazy bastards." The idea that we might actually be rewarded for our hard work (beyond the bare minimums required by law) is, frankly, alien.
Our branch is currently something like #50 in the country, so it'll be tough to get that Bali trip, but I reckon this is the first time any of us instructors have really given a damn about our sales targets....
