Global warming activism and the Catholic Church

Jul 19, 2007 08:20

This was a very strange thought that dropped into my forebrain as I was taking a shower - how are global warming activism and the Catholic Church the same?

  • They both start from the basic premise that humans are inherently bad.
  • They both use guilt as a prime motivator to change personal behavior patterns.
  • They both allow you to "buy back" your misdeeds (medieval Church only).
  • They both promise a better world after you're dead.

These were the first few I can think of. I eliminated a few, like "They both inspire fanatical, occasionally irrational devotion," because the same can be said of the Red Sox, Star Trek and Miracle Whip. I'm sure the idea will remain lodged in my head, and if any other good correlations pop up, I'll edit 'em in. If you have any, drop a comment.

I wish I could just sing in the shower like a normal person....
