Mainland Hospital - All Day

Jul 06, 2006 08:31

Lorelai was feeling a lot better today, actually able to stay awake for longer than thirty minute intervals, which meant she was mostly bored. She wanted to play with Bucky, but all he wanted to do was sleep, eat and dirty his diaper. She'd kind of forgotten how much newborn babies slept.

After finishing up in his office, The Tick walked over to the hospital to visit the Gilmore-Daneses. He was carrying a plush bear that looked large even by Tick's standards. "Hello, Lorelai!" Tick said as quietly as he could manage. "Hello, Bucky! His name is Bucky, right? That's what the radio said."

Lorelai grinned. "Yes, well, technically it's William Starbucks Danes, but we're going to call him Bucky," she explained. "It's so good of you to visit."

"A very keen name, Lorelai!" Tick said. "It's my honor to visit. It's not very often that people I know have babies, so this is a special event for me. Oh, this is for him." He held up the bear.

"You didn't have to do that," Lorelai said. "But it's very cute."

She looked over to the bassinett where Bucky was just starting to wake up. "Looks like you got here at a good time," she said, leaning over to pick up the baby.

"Say hello to Mr. Tick," Lorelai said to Bucky, turning him so Tick could see him.

"Awwww," Tick said. "He so tiny! He's the dime in the pocket full of change of humanity: little, but ten times cuter than most of the other people out there."

"He is pretty cute," Lorelai agreed. "Would you like to hold him?"

"I should warn you that the only baby I've ever actually held before turned out to be a middle aged man who hypnotized me into thinking he was a baby," Tick said, walking over and holding his arms out hesitantly. "But I'm very gentle with animals and small children who need rescuing. This shouldn't be much different, right?"

"I'm sure you'll be fine," Lorelai said, gently placing Bucky in his arms. "Just make sure you support his head."

Tick held Bucky, making sure to support his head, and he couldn't help but smile. He gleed quietly, "Egads! I'm holding the smallest person in the world! This is so keen!"

Lorelai grinned. "I don't think he's the smallest," she said, "but he is awfully tiny."

"He's not the smallest? Well, I suppose there's a reason I don't teach Biology," Tick said.

"Who's going to be a mighty protector of the city of his choice when he grows up?" Tick asked Bucky, approximating baby talk. Y'know, relatively speaking for Tick.

"He's going to need a good mentor if he's going to do that," Lorelai said, still grinning.

"Are you kidding? He'll just look at criminals and they'll turn themselves in," Tick said. "Who could resist Tiny, Adorable Justice like this?"

"Unfortunately he won't always be that tiny and adorable," Lorelai pointed out. "And then he'll need good, solid skills."

"Well, I can teach him that," Tick said. "Superheroing is ninety percent mental. There's nobody who could teach that better than me."
