scribblecat and I were talking about coffee the other day.

Yes, thrilling, I know, but this is a major topic of conversation between us on a regular basis. This time it had been prompted by the closure of a heap of Australian Starbucks stores and how several of the articles had said that the problem was that Starbucks expected to walk into the Aussie market and fill a gaping hole, which wasn't exactly the case, thanks to Gloria Jeans and the fact that Australia has been enjoying fabulous coffee for many decades now. That topic lead to a discussion entitled "What the Hell is Creamer, Anyway?" and a lively debate of why people would use creamer instead of milk and how do Americans drink their coffee when they're at home, anyway?

So.

I have a coffee question, and I also have a few other food questions, because I like to make the most of these kind of nosy posts.

1. If you don't mind saying, what country are you from?

2. Do you drink coffee? If you do, how do you 'have' it? Do you have drink it the same at home as you do when you're out?

3. Do you ever eat nachos? If yes, do you make it yourself at home, or do you only have it when you're out? If you have it at home, how do you make it, and is that the same way it's made when you buy it?

4. When you eat at home, do you tend to stick to the national cuisine of your country (if you have one) or do you like to venture around the globe?

5. If you could try one dish you've never tasted from another country, what would it be?

ETA: Ooops, my answers are here.

1. I'm in Australia. *g*

2. I drink coffee, but these days I try to limit myself to one a day (at breakfast during the week) and maybe two a day on the weekends. I drink what's called a 'flat white' down here, which, and I quote, consists of a shot of espresso (generally 30 millilitres) in a glass with steamed milk poured over, topped with a one-centimetre layer of froth. With two sugars, thanks. The milk used is either plain milk (aka normal, from the cow to the bottle) or 'skinny' milk (various degrees of fat-free stuff). No cream in sight, and definitely no creamer. I still remember in the 70's when Nestle introduced that Cafe Mate stuff? Powdered milk/cream in a jar? Yikes. I think you can still buy it and it's used in the nastier vending machines, too.

3. My love of nachos stemmed from my days of coming home at 3am after being out clubbing. Hungry yet slightly uncoordinated and perhaps too poor to order a pizza? Cornchips, salsa, grated cheese, microwave, sour cream. Done. Sometimes we have it at Mexican restaurants (hello shredded beef!) but not all that often.

4. We eat a LOT of Asian food, whether it's Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese etc. I cook it at home and we go out to eat it as well. One of our best friends is Vietnamese, so he always has his finger on the pulse when it comes to any new places opening up that must be tried. This is the friend who begs to go to Italian places for his birthday dinners, btw, because he gets so tired of Asian food. LOL.

5. I would like to immerse myself, if only for a few days, in all that American food. Ribs and those giant pizzas and things that come in cans that don't come in cans down here! Mexican food made by people who've actually been to Mexico! Pumpkin pie! Candied yams! PEANUT BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE PRODUCTS!

Now that I'm starving, I'm off to make myself a Vegemite sandwich, and then I'll come back and answer my own questions. *g*

P.S. Please NO SPOILER ICONS in this thread, if that's okay? I'd like to keep it clean for scribblecat and her kind (lol) to visit. THANKS!
