OK, I'm now doing my internship. I work at an "Adult Day Health Care" center for 3 days/wk. Scratch that: I travel to another planet for 12 hours/wk.
Basically I have 90 hours (eight of which are already served) of an internship to serve there. My job is basically to interact with the clients, all of which have some sort of dementia. It is a bit like being on a different planet, or maybe another country with vastly different customs and ways of communicating than ours.
This is not a bad thing. Actually it's quite interesting. It's a bit early to say whether or not it's going to be rewarding...it might just be a slog, like other jobs have been for me. I'm still of the opinion that a job is a simple equation of "trade in your hours for a handful of dimes" but I'm hoping that it will be better. Actually, since this is an unpaid internship, there aren't even a handful of dimes at stake. It's all about surviving so I can finish my BA in Psych.
I'm sure I will update with some general thoughts here. I am not going to share anecdotes because this is all covered under HIPAA and what goes on there has to, by law, stay there. But I'm sure I can give general impressions and so forth.
Oh yeah...saw an interesting movie on Tuesday. If you go to
http://cartoongeeks.blogspot.com/ you might see my thoughts about it in the next hour or so.
