Indeed, no good deed goes unpunished...but sometimes it gets a little reward.

Here's the rest of the story with regards to the Bestial Buy/Toshiba Lappy debacle.

Remember I was told that UPS would charge Best Buy's account for shipping the lappy back? Wrongo bongo bucko. "Oh, that label does not conform to UPS specs." I would have to pay to ship the damn thing back.

After an epic battle with BestBuy.Com Customer Care (yeah right) we were told to bring the lappy to "our nearest Best Buy." I had ordered the Verbatim DVD+R Cakebox online because "our nearest Best Buy" was still under construction in Sherman Oaks, and as far as the nearest open ones go we had a Hobson's Choice of Burbank, Porter Ranch and Woodland Hills.

We decided to go to Porter Ranch. Not exactly the nearest and definitely inaccessible via Metro bus, but at least "freeway close" as our local turn of phrase goes.

I need to at least give Eric, the manager from the Porter Ranch/Northridge Beast Buy propers. When my husband and I walked in with the sealed lappie box and gave our spiel on what we had been through in the past 24 hours, we got lots and lots of respect. "Most people would have just kept the laptop...thank you for doing the right thing." For our trouble, I got not only a cakebox of Verbatim DVD+Rs, but also a cakebox of Verbatim "Digital Vinyl" CD-Rs. UPDATE: These are the "silver" non-AZO version, not the dark blue AZO ones. Swell. Still, between these pretty but not great low-tier Verbatim discs and the much better Taiyo Yuden-made Fuji CD-Rs in our stash we are well-stocked for CD-Rs. The DVD+Rs are the good stuff from Verbatim, however. And I can't complain about the price...they gave 'em to me.

But damn, man...I had bought the original purchase online to avoid a trip to the Beast Buy in Woodland Hills which is the nearest Metro-accessible one that's open. That was a bad move. I should have braved the heat and taken the Orange Line out to Woodland Hills in the first place.

And yeah, I should have kept the fucking lappie.

Is that the word "chump" on my forehead? Dammit...

laptop, omgwtfbbq?, nightmare, retail
