Jacko is dead, and the world goes positively NUTZO.

Really, I'm more depressed about Sky Saxon -- someone I actually was acquainted with and with whom Richie worked with with a couple of times -- kicking off than Michael Jackson. I was also somewhat touched by the bravery of Farrah Fawcett as she fought against her cancer, and even though I felt bad about Ed McMahon's passing it felt like he had lived a long and fruitful life.

Yeah, 50 years is way too short. I'm looking at 46 next November 5th.

I am of two minds...some of my comments immediately at Facebook were perhaps a wee bit tasteless, but there is one very important thing about Jackson people aren't talking about. Jackson was accused on more than one occasion of molesting children. More than one occasion. He was never convicted. However, there is a long history of celebrities being accused of serious crimes, crimes with victims, getting away with it because they are famous. Riches don't seem to help as much, rich but obscure people don't seem to get away with crimes. But if you are famous, or if, like Robert Blake, you used to be famous, you will get a pass. This seems to be changing somewhat: OJ got convicted in Vegas for continuing to live the Thug Life, and Phil Spector is finally doing time for a lifetime of threatening to kill -- and killing -- people with guns. However, I suspect there will be other celebs who behave badly getting passes for their behavior in the future. Celebrity is the ultimate "get out of jail free" card.

I find it interesting that Twitter held without faltering during the height of the Iran crisis, but the Fail Whale made his (her?) appearance today as the news came out about Jackson.

they went in fours this time, whacko jacko, getting away with crime, death, celebrity, final things
