Black Friday 2008: the gods of commerce demand, and receive, three sacrifices.

First death: a temp worker at Sith*Mart (what I call Wal*Mart) was trampled to death by a mob shoving against a glass door. The mob ripped the doors off the hinges, according to an observer. This occurred on Long Island, New York.

On the other coast, in Palm Desert, a community near Palm Springs, CA, two men shot and killed each other at a Toys R Us. Were they fighting over a toy? Was this some sort of grudge that exploded? Why the FUCK would not one, but two macho pricks bring guns into a fucking TOY STORE???

The organizers of Buy Nothing Day have a very, very, VERY strong point today.

Here's Allen Ginsberg, invoking Moloch, his metaphor for the industrialized, consumerized world. According to legend, the Caananite deity Moloch was embodied in a clay idol with a furnace in its belly. Children would be passed into the idol's mouth as sacrifice, burnt alive in the fire. Moloch received three sacrifices today. Will the ravenous god of industry and commerce be sated? And for how long?
