No more FireWire? Do you believe that lappy crappy?

The new MacBooks have eliminated FireWire, and FW ports on the MacBook Pro have been cut down to just one. MacBook Air never had it.

OMGWTFBBQ??????

FireWire is a superior interface to USB 2.0. It is a bus-mastering port, which means the CPU does not have to mediate file transfers. It's way faster than USB 2.0, especially factoring in the FW800 version.

If you are working with DV video, not having FireWire is a total deal killer. USB transfer from my DV camera does not work on Mac, period. It's not meant to. It's assumed by video camera manufacturers that there will be a FW/iLink/IEEE1394 port to snarf video.

This is a BAD MOVE. EXTREMELY bad move. I suppose they want to move people who are doing digital video editing to the MacBook Pro. But here's a hint: they're still selling the plastic MacBooks. 2.1GHz processor. And it has a FW400 port, just like my trusty r2d2. That's what you want.

lame, videogeeking, firewire, macbook, macintosh, mac, bad move
