I'm no fan of Jerry Pournelle. I have always hated his politics, and the only writer I have more contempt for in the annals of SF is L. Ron Hubbard. However, the man has some sort of brain cancer now.
I've been reading his blog tonight and he is blogging his experiences...the "zaps" and the symptoms and the side-effects. Reading between the lines,

I am to whatever extent. I dislike his partisan inclinations, as opposed to his old school American conservatism. As for the writing: Inferno.
the "zaps" and the symptoms and the side-effects. Reading between the lines, it doesn't look good for him.
Well, having been reading along the whole time, and if he's telling it straight, there's no clean indication of what it is, so it's just a question of if it is malignant. I figure four weeks should tell the tale, since the treatment is over.
Oh yeah, I have the death certificate now.
I hope you are doing ok.
Next week will be a whirl of activity, including a friend coming down early from Washington State to help me divvy up Richie's musical equipment.
Just keep in mind, you don't have to part it all out at once. (I am thinking of my Grandmother when my step-Grandfather died, and people just started snagging stuff. She let his family hurry her into making decisions she regretted, because she was too busy reeling from the loss.)

I'm doing. No, I'm not "fine" and I am likely NOT going to be "fine" in the forseeable future. However, I am getting things done and trying to make sure I'm in the company of friends or family as much as possible.
Richie specifically instructed me to make sure that his musical equipment would get into the hands of people who would PLAY the instruments, not just put them on display. I think I'm doing pretty well by those instructions.
Luckily my family haven't gotten grabby. Cousin Brad and his son Jack are the only musicians in my blood family, and Aunt Karen's boyfriend John is the only other musician. They are being very respectful of whatever decisions I make along these lines. And to be perfectly honest, outside of musical stuffs there is really nothing anyone would want to grab. We weren't exactly rolling in the dough.
Everyone also knows my tech stuff is MINE. And besides, what on earth would people who can afford latest-and-greatest on things like computers and stuff want with a bunch of vintage Macs and aging PCs?
Anyway, thanks for the good thoughts. I'm really scared about the current economic situation. Whoever's going to be in the White House as of 1/20/2009 is going to have to be in firefighting mode for the forseeable future. We really need another FDR but I doubt either Hillary or Obama are up to that. And god help us if McSame gets in, because instead of filling up the hole Dubya dug for us he will be getting in that hole and digging. Perhaps to China, if you know what I mean. :P
At least I have my passport if things get really bad. It will expire in 2014. In a way it's good that Richie won't be able to see what comes next. Because it's going to get uglier before it gets better. If it ever gets better, that is.
