A stray cat followed Pat to our apartment today.
He was a very friendly little guy. He was a bit skinny, and had no collar. A quick check with the landlord confirmed that there were no missing animal notices around the apartment. Not knowing what else to do, I called animal control and waited for someone to come down and pick him up from our apartment.
While waiting, he scurried around our place, playing with Pat's mini-basketballs, wrestling with our shoes, and chewing on my big pile of papers. We offered him some milk, but he didn't take it. He frequently came around to rub up and be petted, and we dubbed the little guy "Snicker" 'cause of his black and brown-striped fur.
After about an hour, he finally meowed to be let outside, so I took him out and followed him around for a while. During that time, I spoke to my downstairs neighbor, who had also seen the cat roaming around for the past couple weeks, and noticed that he never seemed hungry or cold.
Anyways, the animal control person finally came, put him into a little cage, and left. I know that he'll be in an animal shelter for at least a few days, but if nobody claims him by then, well, yeah.
Part of me thinks that I should've somehow found the financial resources to adopt him personally. Part of me also thinks that he was doing alright as a stray, and I've done nothing more than condemn the cute, friendly little guy to death.
Well, with that said, I just want to let you guys know that there's a little snicker-colored cat at the Dona Ana county animal shelter. If anybody out there is thinking of adopting a pet, please go have a look.
