Now, let's see if I can get this damn cut tag to work...
Wow, this ep had so much to squee about. (Well, if you're me.) The sewing up the arm thing, the angsty flashbacks, Maid!Ruby, derailing the rape thing, and, hmmm, wasn't there something else...? *G*
Ye flippin' yikes, That Scene. And not just the OMGHOT, either. Sam, sitting on the sofa, freaked out of his mind, wow. Jared played that beautifully--I loved that when she started walking toward him, he cut his eyes over to her and then away. But before that, OPB and a half, because he was sitting there, eyes wide enough to see white all around, terrified. Of Ruby, a little, but mostly of himself, I think. Fighting so hard to do the right thing, but not able to resist in the end.
I'd bet that since he buried Dean, nobody at all had voluntarily touched him, apart from a handshake when he was investigating a case, and nor had he touched anybody either. I'd also bet he didn't even let Bobby hug him before the burial. So when Ruby put his hand on her side and held it there, well.
The dead-stop segue from that scene was priceless, and reminded me of "The Zeppo" episode of Buffy, where Buffy and Angel are having this heartwrenching parting scene, complete with angsty music that stopped the second Xander came into the scene. I was a little surprised that Dean didn't completely flip his shit about Sam sleeping with a demon, and I'd love to know how Sam was describing things. (I think I really like
minim_calibre's
version, yo. Heh.)
And the crossroads scene, whoa. Folks are making a lot of the fact that the crossroads demon was a guy, but my theory is, the answer was gonna be no, so they didn't need to sweeten the pot. (Though I don't think for one second that Sam would have hesitated to seal a deal with a kiss. He was way past desperate, there.)
When we got to the first-aid scene, I just know there were several people out there going, "Oh, look, Dori! Blood!" *G*
But one of the most interesting things about that scene was the difference from that sewing himself up scene in "Mystery Spot." In that one, he was way beyond stoic. Didn't make a sound, wouldn't acknowledge that it hurt. I have to wonder how much Ruby had to to with that change, how much Dean being back had to do with it, and how much of it was Sam having learned something from the Trickster's game.
And okay, can I just kick Uriel's ass now? Huh?
I'm glad we're seeing Sam's dangerous side more this season. It's always been there--I've been saying for a long time that Dean was the broken one and Sam was the dangerous one. But he hasn't let it out much. (I'm not counting when he was possessed.) The bit where he's got Ruby pinned to the wall with the knife at her throat, *ahem*. And stabbing the crossroads demon in the hand.
I think a lot of that is due to what happened in "Mystery Spot." Losing Dean over and over and OVER for all that time, that broke something in Sammy. Now he's dangerous and damaged. Which probably explains why I like him so much more this season. *G*
