Yesterday was our 23d anniversary. And we have a play reading which I am directing, so we can't skip it, but we planned to go out after it was over. Sam had made plans, which he would not tell me about.
So we leave the reading, and we have to stop on the way to drop off the scripts at Terry's office. I'd forgotten to tell my regular Sunday chat folks I was going to be missing, so while we were there I used the computer lab to send an e-mail. Everything's sent, everything's put away, we're leaving, and Sam says, "We're going out through the theater."
And there, in a pool of light, was a table with a red checked cloth and a vase with two beautiful yellow roses. And a plate full of Krystal hamburgers. (That may not sound like a very romantic thing to serve, but trust me, it was. ) In the theater, which is how we met in the first place. I don't think I stopped smiling until I fell asleep.
It was the best anniversary dinner we've ever had. Twenty-three years. And still, romance.
I'd say I lucked out, finding Sam, but it wasn't luck. It was God, giving me exactly what I needed.
So, God? THANK YOU...
