Finals are over, yay. Mine were both practical finals, so I didn't have to take exams or write papers, thank God.
I've been having problems with my voice for over a week now, and I was worried that I was going to be voiceless for both finals. This week was a nightmare of rehearsals for the two finals--I think we pretty much all lived in Masonic for two days. Jaq, bless her, was there pretty much all day, every day.
The Colloquium final went pretty well, except that my voice went out in the last scene I did. Panic immediately ensued, because the next day was the acting final, and you kinda gotta have a voice for that. I didn't talk after I got home; it was back to the whiteboard. I was really lucky that the doctor could fit me in before the class. I now have antibiotics and the Good Kind of cough syrup.
I drank cups and cups and cups of hot lemonade, which helped, took the Good Cough Medicine, which also helped, and completely stopped talking until I actually had to perform the scenes on Wednesday. Well, okay, not COMPLETELY. But near as dammit. I even did the exercises in class in a whisper. Fortunately, this all worked, because when I got up to do my monologue (first! In front of an invited audience which included my thesis advisor!) I was surprised how strong my voice was. The scene went well, I think--I don't remember much of it, except for a moment when I lost Leontes behind a pillar. (And many thanks to
midnight_fyre, who was doing that part, for giving me wonderful stuff to react to!). Likewise, don't remember much of the Damned Hamlet Scene, except for the furniture-flinging. Jaq gave me a thumbs up after the monologue, so I figure she liked that one.
I'm still really tired and dizzy a lot, and I'm not really eating enough, because of the sinus infecction, but at least I'm not spitting out yucky green stuff now.
