I don't even have to try. You are just that bad at life.

Says the man with the sprained/broken wrist from falling off a desk and who now refuses to wear the brace.

I once told a story about my cat who loved my space heater. She kept pawing at it, and I kept shooing her away; until finally I'd had enough, and decided to let her learn her lesson. I looked up again when I smelled burnt hair. She'd singed the fur on her paw (it didn't burn her pad or skin).

A woman sitting nearby exclaimed at what a bad pet owner I was for letting my cat get burned (her fur grew back! She wasn't injured! Sheesh). It was only later that night that I realised this was the same woman who had told about her dogs being killed by cars when the nearby highway was diverted closer to her home for road construction. This woman did nothing as one by one five of her dogs were struck and killed by cars. Didn't keep them inside, didn't put them on a chain, didn't put up a fence, nothing. And she had the nerve to critise me! My cat was fine! She never touched the space heater again! Whilst this woman's the proud ( ... )

I'm wearing it now. Shut up. It hurts and I hate it and its horrible and it may actually kill me, just so you know. You can stop acting smug any time, now.

I'm sorry! Didn't mean to be smug. We all fail at life sometimes.

I'm sorry you are in such pain. I hope the brace at least does its job and that you feel better soon!

Some of us more than others.

I fail to see how something that hurts this badly can actually help.

Evidently :-)

I don't know either. A brace shouldn't cause more pain for a sprain :(

Wow, that's all sorts of special. I don't even let my boys outside because (see above for how stupid they are) I know they won't come back home if I do.

Oh yeah. This was rural Georgia. No one thought anything about letting their dogs wander about. Even ones that bit or threatened to bite. I've always kept my pets in fenced yards, inside, or on lead.

Another sad dog story from Georgia: My house was a few miles down the highway from my work. People drove like nut-cases and the road was narrow so I didn't feel safe biking. Instead I drove too. One day I noticed a house right on the highway had acquired two dogs. The dogs frequently wandered along the road. About a month later, one of the dogs had been killed by a car. The other was standing nearby his packmate's body, looking extremely forlorn. They were on the road. Later that day I drove back, and the second dog was now also a victim of road-kill :(

Another reason why I keep my cats inside is that my mum didn't, when I was growing up, and we lost several to contagious disease, mysterious disappearances (vicious boys lived in the neighborhood), and car collisions. None of that for me, thank you!

Oh, man. Part of being a pet owner is keeping them safe. How difficult is it to just latch a chain to their collar or put up a fence?

I still haven't decided whether Murph will be an indoor cat or an outdoor cat.

I live pretty near a major road, but apart from that one time, he seems to be doing pretty well for not getting smeared. The vet said he'd probably been living rough for a bit, although he'd had someone to feed him at some point.

God, that's sad.

In my very suburban neighborhood, we have coyotes. Whenever I see a lost cat sign, I want to put a post-it on it that says PLEASE KEEP YOUR CATS INDOORS OR IT WILL BE EATEN BY COYOTES LIKE THIS ONE PROBABLY WAS. Of course, I don't, because I'm not heartless, and it makes me cry to think about it.

One big advantage of the UK, I don't THINK you have any predators large enough to eat cats there, do you?

Not in the cities. They might get into a scrap with a fox or maybe a badger if you live in the suburbs, but in London there's practically nothing to worry about, except the cars.

LOL! I always wanted to make a book called "101 Reasons to Keep Your Cat Indoors". It would be 101 pictures of road-killed cats.
