I always thought that taking my trademark photo in Shanghai could be a little interesting and problematic given the way the country is run and the possibility of it being stopped before i had the photo was quite real.
It in fact it was cut short and I didn't get the photo I was after because i became the center of attention and at any time there were 30 or so cameras pointed at me. Every where I moved I was followed and hunted down. In hind site, success today wasn't going to be easy, as Sunday is the day of rest and people flock to the city to have fun. It would have been the nicest day in the 7 or so weeks I have been here and that the spot I had chosen for the shoot was a park which had been closed for 3 years and had just reopened today.
The reaction to me has been amazing positive. In my adventures of tramping around the city today, I only had one person, a rather elderly woman come up and question my motives. Given that she would have witnessed the japanese occupation, the rise of communism and the take over of capitalism, she may have had a valid point if I could of understood it.
I only have another 3 nights here before I head back home so I will have to try for a re shoot in the next couple of nights , if work commitments allow it of do it early tomorrow morning.
All in all an interesting day was had.
Ciao
