CAR!

The phone rang this afternoon and it was a guy who wanted to see my father about the convertable...
We
don't own a convertable anymore.  So my first thought was "WTF? is dad
looking for a replacement? he doesn't have room for another car."
Turns out the new owner of the car we had is restoring it and he was going to bring it by to visit.

I got to visit my car.
I learned to drive in that baby.
It's a '92 Chrystler LeBaron convertable.  V6 3.0 liter.  It goes VROOOOOM!!!!
I have a lot of great memories of that car.

I remember how hard it was to learn to parallel park it.  It's so long.

And
the stupid day when I was learning to drive when Dad decided we were going to get a frosty... In Fernley... by way of pryamid lake...It's a 100 mile trip there and back the way we went... North to the lake, east to Fernley, south to Carson City and north to home.  Being a new driver I
was afraid of the highway.  US-395 is a big raised up roadway... 4 lanes each way... I so did not want to brave that coming into town... So
I went through Reno... At 5ish.... On Kietzke Lane.  Major surface street.  Lots of traffic.  Stop and go... Took an hour.
Yeah, I totally do the freeway now.

I almost drowned soaked my best friend when I asked her to stay in the car and catch the drips of water when I washed it... Apparently water came rushing into the car and she still has nightmares.
I had a few adventures with  Larry...
There was the freak rainstorm of doom....
Shewas with me when it had just had a new alternator installed.... When it stopped running and we coasted for a really impressive distance.  (The garage didn't hook it up well)
The trip 100 miles over a state line for a Movie... A Kid's Movie.  (Tangent time.... That clip... Is a good song... But not the one I wanted.  There's a song from this movie that I could listen to forever but I couldn't find it... SHAME.  because it's musically awesome.. The horns oh the horns... But this one has a story.  So.. I'm not a religious person.  I actually need to see if I am.  My parents didn't raise us religious so we could decide what we believe. I think that's awesome.  Anyhow the story.  I call my BFF Larry.  Larry is a cucumber.  He loves his Lips.  He's a little silly.  He's in the Jonah movie as a pirate.  That asparagus in a turbin.  That's Archibald.  Larry calls me Archie.  And when we saw this, not only were we singing along half way through the song on our first viewing... But we actually drove back home pointing out that I really am Archie.  He can't dance well like the other asparagussesss? Asparagi.  He's a little reserved. and dorky... And he wears a monocle.  I want one.  I actually need a star shaped one... the movie is story based.. Group of kids learning to give second chances on their way to the Twippo Concert... Yeah. Archie plays Jonah... and Twippo (Who I can't find a decent clip of)... Twippo wears an Elvis white jumpsiut and a star shaped monocle...
Monicles are cool.)

I convinced my six year old  not-my-sister that it doesn't shift into gear if your seat belt isn't  fastened. (Not hard) and with the help of her mother and Larry I convinced her that if you feed it it'll get more hungry and eat the
smallest person in the car.  (Gosh I'm evil)

A friend of mine in high school told me he stole it... As I was looking at it right where I parked it across the street.(Still don't know how I got that space)...
Apparently he was trying to impress a girl with his fly car.  He...
Yeah, I don't know why he was trying to impress a girl with a car since
he's gay, a guy, I could see, but a girl just confuses me.

I'd had lots of people climb in over the back when the top was down, and one jump out before the car stopped... (At like 5mph.)
Earlier this year Dad donated it to the union gospel mission because it wasn't
in the greatest shape, but better than a lot of things on the road.  And
he didn't have space for it or the time and money to actually restore
it.
Apparently the mission sold it to a guy for $350 who needed a car to get to and from work... He apparently spray painted it and covered
it with random stickers.
And the gentleman who has it now treats it like it should be.  He had the seats re-upholstered to look original.
He had a new cover for when the top is down made for it... It's now crimson to match the interior.  And he repainted it white.  Did the pin
striping.  It looks good.
And it's good to know that that car that was good to me for many years is in the hands of a nice guy who will take care of it and enjoy it.

things are cool, i'm just a geek, family, car, larry, ++
