Santa's Little Helper

Oh, man. How did I forget to post about this over the holidays?

On Christmas eve, I went to the thrift store to buy a white pillow case so that D could dress up as an angel for the children's mass that afternoon. Of course, I can't just go for a single item and then leave.

So I wandered around and found a nice looking pirate ship toy and such.

Then, I noticed there was a little girl following me. I had a moment to wonder whether I had picked up something she was hoping to take home with her before she handed something to me. I looked down and saw the small sticky note with God Bless You in child's scrawl. It was attached to a $100 bill.

I didn't really understand what was going on at first because it was so surprising. She said, "Merry Christmas!" and wandered off before I could talk to her and I didn't really know what to do. So I walked around a little more until I saw her walking with two other young girls and an older man.

I paid for my things and then approached them. I said, "Sir, are you sure about this?"

And he replied, "We're Santa Claus. Merry Christmas."

So I accepted the gift and took the baby man out to the car.

I was thinking about what to do with this beneficence when I realized I knew exactly where it was meant to go. So I drove over to the house of a family in need and they had power/heat for Christmas.

I only wish that I'd had the forethought to stop at the bank to match the gift with one of my own.
