I was seriously unimpressed.
The great thing about Life on Mars was that it was highly original. The viewers had no more idea than Sam as to whether he was mad, in a coma or living in 1973. It was all so DIFFERENT and exciting. Maybe Ashes to Ashes will improve now that we've got the intorductory episode out of the way - but I have that sinking feeling that it won't. I'm thinking it'll be a watered down version of LoM. Instead of the brooding love interest being just as much between Sam and Gene as it was between Sam and Annie it's going to be a really obvious Gene/Alex. When Gene glanced over at the articles on Sam on the wall - all us slashers knew what he was thinking!
I loved the background of 1973 as it was JUST on my litmit of memory. Certain items would trigger memories what filled me with joy. The 80's were "my" decade in the sense that I was into the music and culture, leaving home, setting up my own home, blah blah. It all seems not very long ago and it's scary that 1981 is more than 25 years behind us...
So next week we are going to relive the wedding of Charles & Diana on Ashes to Ashes. What are your memories of that day?
I can remember watching it from early in the morning on the tele. I remember everyone not liking her dress when she got out of the carriage. As with so many times in my life I can remember having terrible period pains that day and consuming Feminax to get through the day. In the late afternoon I went round to Karen L's house. Someone else was there - it could have been Tanuja but I can't remember. Was it you Tanuja? Or had you moved house by then? I think it was a sunny day in the West Midlands.
