Yesterday we had our third exam of the semester. There were 23 lectures, a ream of powerpoint slides, and a 78 page review sheet. I worked hard to get the information, but it really is a deluge and it's hard to just keep one's head above water. I completely agree that patients shouldn't be pressured into joining a research trial. My understanding is that clinical trials go through an extensive review process to ensure that, according to all present knowledge, the new protocol is equally beneficial relative to the current standard of care. You can't try something outside the standard of care without it being part of a protocol and going through a review board. (That's something that malpractice lawyers would rightfully jump on ( ... )
