10 British Costume Drama Actors I Never Guessed Were Married.... To Each Other

Oct 10, 2011 15:50

1. Matthew Macfadyen (Little Dorrit, Pride & Prejudice '05) and Keeley Hawes (Wives & Daughters, Upstairs Downstairs)

Despite the fact that the characters I most identify with these actors, Arthur Clennam and Cynthia Kirkpatrick, would never see eye to eye, this couple just might be my real-life OTP. Married for seven years, these two are parents to two adorable children and are frequently seen about together as a family despite both having busy careers.

2. Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter, Cranford) and Jim Carter (Cranford, Downton Abbey)

Appearing together in Cranford (alongside a cameo by their daughter, Bessie Carter) and married for an amazing 27 years, this couple is a testament to the power of marriage. They also happen to be ridiculously cute in the way that only long-lasting couples can be.
Umbridge/Carson crossover fics, anyone?

3. Ian Glen (Wives & Daughters, Game of Thrones) and Susannah Harker (Pride & Prejudice '95)

I only discovered this marriage by the copious abuse of IMDB, it seems that it was relatively unknown since I cannot even find a picture of them together! Married for 11 years and divorced in 2004, it appears that the entire world has forgotten about their relationship. The existence of one child is the only thing that makes me believe in it's truth.
But really, Jane Bennet and Mr. Preston?
ETA: Thanks totheotherayn we have pictures! 1,2, and 3. They also starred opposite each other in Adam Bede and The Fear. During the filming of P&P, Susanna was pregnant with Mr. Preston's baby! Feel free to borrow some brain bleach ;)

4. Emma Thompson (Sense & Sensibility, Much Ado About Nothing) and Greg Wise (Sense & Sensibility, Cranford)

Finding out about this couple was pretty much like discovering your music teacher got your school counselor pregnant and you are the last to know they were even dating... awkward. Married for 8 years and parents to one daughter, these two supposedly met on the Sense & Sensibility set.
I always thought there was something between Eleanor and Willoughby, although I never would have guessed what!

And thanks to sarahkatiejayI've discovered another couple:

5. Ioan Gruffudd (Amazing Grace, Hornblower) and Alice Evans (The Abduction Club)

These two met while shooting 102 Dalamations and bonded after the unexpected death of Alice Evans' mother. Married since 2007 and parents to a two year old daughter, my only thought is why haven't I heard of their adorableness before?

Edited 10/15: We have another couple thanks tobirdienl!

6. Hugh Dancy (Daniel Deronda, David Copperfield) and Claire Danes (Little Women, Stardust)
Met on the set of Evening (I’m starting to agree with olde_fashioned that it is a dangerous thing to star with the opposite sex), these two married in France and recently celebrated their 3rd anniversary. Aren’t they a glamorous pair?

*****

And for the last, I can't leave out one couple who might have wedding bells chiming someday in the future:

Colin Morgan (Merlin) and Katie Mcgrath (The Tudors, Merlin)!

Just look at these two and tell me they're not madly in love and secretly engaged! Admit it, you know you can't!

So what do you think? Any Costume Drama couples you never would have guessed were/are married? Who can I add to my list?
