A word on the antimacassar

Recently I was reminded that not many of you know the origins of my username. Some of you even mock the choice itself! *gaspshock* So in order to educate you on the subject, I have dug up a pseudo-essay I wrote almost two years ago. 'Antimacassar' is my favorite word ever. There's nothing you can do to dissuade me of its fabulous qualities so you ( Read more... )

GUH, want your bookshelves!!! Esp all the pretty versions that I only have one of (S&S that a friend gave me)! What are the books second shelf up on the right?

Ok, fine fine, antimacassar is cool. But I still mispronounce it as massacre, which I've done pretty much from the start. If I wasn't splitting it into "antima cassar" I'd say "anti-massacre." Once I learn something the wrong way, it takes forever for me to relearn it the correct way. Pity for some of my past students, I tell ya.

Aww, thanks! I collect those penguin editions - now everyone knows what to get me for Christmas! ;) Second shelf up from the bottom right? That would be my Boxcar Children collection. :)

Haha, I won you over at last. I get that way with words too. Hopefully you will learn it the right way eventually!

Yes! My family collected them and served as a kind of lending library for the entire neighborhood. Even now we have a little girl who likes to borrow them occasionally. :-)

Yes, the early books still have all their charm! The newer, more modern books are pretty lame though, sadly.

Huh, I didn't know they'd remade them. That's a shame.

Not really remade, just continued the series to ridiculous heights. Once they tried to set them in the present day it all fell apart. I stopped reading before they hit #100 and it was already bad.

Oh, so it's still the same characters and everything? Ugh, I can imagine so. I never read anything but the old ones, happily.

Yeah. :( Just looking at the latest titles makes me depressed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Boxcar_Children_books
