Boring health things first, as my communication has been spotty lately. I've been spending a lot of time up the sides of mountains, out of cell phone range, or on the lake, with no internet. I've also been spending some quality time in MRI machines and talking to Specialists of Various Sorts, all which has been both expensive and unproductive. The end result is that the tumor mass, though benign, is too hard to get at without a lot of risk. End assessment.
The dubious good news is: no surgery, and the tumor isn't what was causing my pain. My major back injury was. AND, my fatigue and weakness and flank pain was a antibiotic-resistant staph infection of the everywhere, including but not limited to my kidneys, that I picked up during my yearly exam. The infection took a while to get over, but now I'm finally feeling pretty good. My home herbal tumor treatment has had some unexpectedly good side effects: I have no more asthma, my pain is less, I have more energy, I've lost ten pounds, and the tumor mass has shrunk. So, fuck you, western medicine.
I have seen a few people, notably meeting
doublehelix for the first time. He's seriously awesome in person. I also had dinner with the always charming
lady_gray and her entourage of boys. This needs to happen more often. Tonight I'm going off to meet
dragatheimpaler for a drink!
And, though I'm seriously annoyed with western medicine, the surgeon I've been talking to was fabulous. She was the one who figured out the staph infection, and took the time to look at ALL of my records before leaping to a diagnosis. She was pleased that I'd done some research, and was compassionate and respectful of my opinions. That's a rare thing in a medical specialist.
