Even with the 4-wheelers and snowmachines people here walk. Alot. And when they're on the 4-wheelers they sort of cruise along and people will stop and chat or you can jump on the back and get and ride and even then, you're out in the air and seeing people and talking. It just made me really understand how unnatural car culture is, and how hard it is to get away from it, even if you want to. I spent a hell of a lot of time in my car this summer, just getting from place to place because of the distances I was going.
I love to drive, and I love having a car when I'm in WA, but I love that my current lifestyle doesn't involve a car on a daily basis. When I move back downstates, I just hope I can find a way to keep that going or to at least not have to spend hours every day trapped in my tiny pod.
