Now that smoking cigarettes in public has been banned, can we ban cars next? Same reasons.

While I agree in general, I've always disliked this analogy. If someone ran their car inside a restaurant, everyone would die very shortly.

Sure, it's inexact. But if what we're worried about is public health, then cars are a much greater overall hazard than second hand smoke, not to mention the environmental damage.

Every day I breathe second hand exhaust!! Think of the children!!

guns dont kill... smokers with guns do! p0stmdrnpr1mt1v November 11 2005, 10:35:23 UTC
ha, at work I was ranting about the same thing... about how much toxic shit is pumped into the air by industry and cars.

I also get irritated about anti-gun activists using statistics of gun-related deaths when cars kill and maim more amerikans than any terrorist could ever dream of. of course those deaths and injuries are "acceptable" because it's our sacred way of life. or something.

i have mentioned this very thing at this bungalow~ then i said, well, i guess if we all stopped driving our cars...(staring right into Den's soft blues.....) and had to walk everywhere, ro ride a bike or a horse, or a goat cart....(uhm...i havent quite perfected my astral travel)...then we would have to all shop closer to home and barter and trade, cuz it would take us all day to go to town (13 miles) and all night to get home.....so we would have to take our backpacks, and walking sticks, and then we would want to take a bedroll or something, cuz we would want to stop and see anyone on the way, as it would be quite a jaunt to just get in a quick hello or drop something off at a friends....) and we would definately need to get a little more organized, and have some better back~ups for our every day warmth and sustenance....probly would want a garden and then a lot of projects done at home to save time and emergy, might even do a a vocation either from home or at least nearby, communities would get smaller and smaller, we ( ... )

Americans associate their Cars with Freedom. Hence the reason this war is to Defend our Freedom.

I notice a lot of small women driving large SUVs. This is so they have a greater chance of surviving after being too engrossed in their cell phone conversations to drive safely.

Everywhere is built up to be Nowhere, in America. That is why a car is necessary is required to go Anywhere.

Men require Cars to Date Chicks: It is expected that he pick her up, or drop her off.
