Been busy, tired and lazy all at once the past few weekends, so here's a massive update from the past few weekends:
FRIDAY, AUGUST 20
Jen's friends were kinda wishy washy with their plans, so we decided to see Exorcist: The Beginning at Beacon East. I decided to ask Larry to come (since he is interested in Jen), then I added JC, and they asked if Mary could come. So JC picked up Mary and Larry came waaay late to my house, so we met at National Coney Island. A quick dinner, then we rushed to Beacon. Larry works there, so he called in passes for us, awww. The place was dead and I was VERY surprised. The clientele down there really like violent, scary and urban movies, so I thought this would be full. Hell no! We saw Dan N. in the lobby and chatted for a few seconds. Brian was up in the booth and came down for a quick chat before the show.
The movie was better than I thought it would be. I haven't seen the original Exorcist, but I understand this movie explains a lot of what happens in the original. It was "interesting" to hear the patrons "interact" with the movie... laughing TOO loudly and making loud funny comments at the screen. Only at 8 Mile and Vernier! There was a couple with a small kid behind us, and she kept talking and crying during most of the show. I wish I could have said something to them to TAKE THE KID OUT but you just don't do that to people down there, or you could get a good beatin'. =) They took the kid out for a while but then were in the back and you could hear her still. No respect for others, I tell ya.
After the show, Brian saw us through the porthole and waived us upstairs. He showed us the booth and we had more theater gossipping. (Sorry you felt left out, Jen. We haven't seen Brian in forever.) He told us he heard Beacon and Dearborn are next on the chopping block, but no surprise there. It really sucks. Brian seemed really sincerely glad to see us and it was a nice feeling. He said to come visit more often. We even saw some of our old guards there, awww.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 21
Moving day from Sterling Heights apartment to Roseville house for Clara and Jeff. I show up at their apartment, and Bob (the mortgage guy for them and me) was there to my surprise. He offered to help them since they were so short handed. Clara and Jeff got most of their items out of the apartment and into the house during the week, but the major stuff was going that Saturday. PLUS, we were going to get all of their stuff out of Clara's dad's basement. Lucky they rented a pretty big UHAUL. We made one full trip from the apartment, then another full one from Clara's dad's. Jeff accidentally backed into the corner of the gutter so he did a really fast fix on it before Clara's dad came home, phew. There was a lot more stuff than I thought they had there. I think Bob was a bit overwhelmed too, heheh.
Bob had to leave, so the last load we had to unload ourselves. Most of it went into their garage for them to sort later. Then we had to pick up their new mattress set from the store. It was getting late and I was SO tired, sore and sweaty from all the moving that I didn't make it to the Woodward Dream Cruise to see The Beat Club play. Oh well. I was sore for 2 days after that! But friends do these things for friends so it was worth it. They got a great house for the money... lots of stuff renovated and brand new and not a speck of dirt anywhere. I really like it and I am happy for them.
I went home, tidied up, and got ready to go out at night with the bois. Matt, Mike, JC, Frank and I went to the bar. This guy named Dean was talking to JC and said he was cute, heheh. JC had 2 Smirnoff Twisteds and a lemon drop shot and that proved too much for him, lightweight! We had lots of fun dancing and making fun of people as usual, hahah. Seemed like there was a group of women there for a bachelorette party and there was some ugly bizzos up in there.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 22
Spent with Ron and his family up at Algonac State Park for his cousin's surprise 50th birthday party. With my hangover-remedy aka GATORADE in hand, I went with his family. Gerry's nieces were there and cute as always. We played a little and went for a walk in the woods. I never knew horseshoes were THAT hard to throw. The guys make it look easy, but they have arm strength. The weather was nice and sunny, with a breeze to make it chilly in the shade. I went for a walk by the water with his sister Tracy and looked at the freighters passing inbetween us and Canada across the water. There was a ton of great food there... burgers, dogs, salad, desserts. They sung happy birthday to Ron's brother Steve too, aww. It was a fun time, even though I really didn't know anyone. I thanked his one cousin for the foosball table she donated to me earlier that week. My movie theater/game room is coming along downstairs. =)
MONDAY, AUGUST 23
My sister told me she heard from a friend's mom that one of our priests from our former church, St. Martin de Porres, was accused of sexual misconduct with an underage boy. His name is Fr. Tim Murray and he's now in Livonia at St. Edith. I found an article in the Free Press online. The archdioces put Fr. Tim and this other priest on leave the day before, pending an investigation. I really was in shock. This guy presided at Clara and Jeff's wedding (they requested him to come back to St. Martin's for the occasion) and he presided when we made our reconciliations. WOW. The article is
HERE if you want to have a read. I wonder if the allegations are true? Hey, I believe anything can happen. I am sure there are lots of priests that are or turn into pervs. Sex is a natural force and you are asking MEN to abstain? Maybe the church should let them marry. I dunno. I have a few problems with things the church says. But that's a whole other topic...
FRIDAY, AUGUST 27
Not too exciting. I tidied the house and wrapped the presents for Sara's wedding. Ron and I had a yummy dinner I made and we watched Food Network. I love it.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 28
Sara H. got married to her fiance Chris W. (whom she met working at Blockbuster) out at the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly, MI. I was very afraid the weather would be totally crappy, because it was pouring overnight, up until about 9AM. Mark, Ron and I carpooled out there. I made a budget-priced, somewhat-renaissancy peasant outfit with cheapo hair garland, but it turned out pretty good. We got there at 10 minutes to 11AM and the wedding didn't start until after 11:30. The sky was overcast but at least there was no rain!
The metaphysical minister marched us to an iron pavilion surrounded by colorful flower beds. Her husband marched the bridesmaids and Sara through the festival and to the pavilion, shouting things about a maiden going to be married. He was kinda old with a shaggy grey beard and was dressed in a kilt. The ceremony was about 20 min. long, and seemed nice, from what I could see and hear. The minister wasn't very loud so I didn't get to hear much. I was busy taking lots of digital and some film photos. They did some Celtic rituals, like sharing bread and a wine cup, and the tying of hands. I saw Sara's mom with a few tears in her eyes, awww. Everyone in the bridal party was dressed in renaissance costumes made by the bride's and groom's mothers. They did a great job. Sara's handmade dress was beautiful and of course got all muddy from the ground.
After the ceremony, the minister/her hubby and the bridal party led us to a tent for the reception. While we ate the delicious buffet food (mmm roast beef and chicken cordon bleu, plenty of veggies) the rain began to pour off and on. We sat by a couple of Chris' relatives, and they liked to drink and were kinda outspoken people, so they were funny at first but then got a bit annoying. A few people walking by had cool costumes, so I took a few photos. This one guy was totally decked out like a lord and had a TON of awesome, tall feathers in his cap. He saw me zooming in and shooting his photo so he came closer. He kinda looked like Sarah W.'s first ex-husband, Glen, (but this guy was a lot more handsome) so that kinda freaked me out! Of course, you pay a price for shooting photos of strangers. He made me pose for a few photos with him and Ron took them with my camera. He was kissing my hand, then up my arm, etc. That's the only part of the ren fest that can get annoying... when the "characters" come flirt with you.
When I was going to the "privy" aka bathrooms, this guy stopped me and was flirting, using renaissance speak. He went to kiss my ring hand and said, "My fair maiden, I see you are not married!" and I told him my boyfriend was under the tent behind me. He said something about "well tell him it is romance weekend so he may romance you more like this..." and he kissed my neck and bid me farewell. Yeeech. He was being a goof, but I'd rather not have strangers kiss me on the neck, yanno?
Saturday night I went out clubbing with Jen and her friends Margaret, Jasmine and their friend Adrianna. They all seemed nice to me. The clubs had changed so much in Pontiac over the past few years, so we decided to try some new ones. We went to TIME, which is where SPACE used to be after they moved from Detroit, which was Have A Nice Day Cafe before that, which was INDUSTRY before that. Needless to say, TIME was a "waste of TIME". We paid $6 to get in, bought drinks, and wondered why it was so empty at 11pm. We got out on the dance floor an noticed that there were about 95% women in there and I'd say less than 50 people in the place total. What? The music they were playing was kinda rap/booty, but we couldn't dance to it well. There was a bachelorette party there, and we saw some gross stuff, like 3 underdressed, porky bitches bumping and grinding with each other, two women grossly handling each other/kissing and some pretty obscene kissing by this girl and guy. We had enough of the skanks and left after about 20 minutes! I have never left a club in such short a time ever, and don't plan to return.
We decided to try SEVIN down the street, which was supposedly more upscale. The cover wasn't bad, and the place was really hopping. The decor was neat and there was cool furniture around. I thought some people should be dressed nicer, since there is a salon there and two floors and stuff. The dance floor was pretty cool but could be made bigger. They had scantily clad girls in "cages" above the dance floor with a tall waterfall falling between the platforms, which was kinda cool. The sound and lights were fab and they played good danceable music from techno to modern rap. The waterfall cascading outside of the windows was neat.
There were lots of guys at this place. A few times I felt like I was surrounded by wolves because they ran in groups and kinda tried to surround you and dance with you. Nobody extremely obnoxious but... your usual cheesy bar guys. I am not interested in dancing with anyone but my gals, so I did a good job of shying them away. But Margaret and Jen had guys on them, but they weren't creeps and Jen got a beer outta one of them, woot! But of course, there are politics with the guys usually... they are divorced, they have ex's with kids, etc. Same shit, different day. That's why I don't even care to talk to these freaks, and I dunno why the chicks do either. One reason to hate bars. I just wanna dance with my crew and people watch, that's all. Being hit on boosts your ego, but I just don't like it.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 29
I slept in. And all was good. I had good intentions of tackling some major chores, but since I was away from the computer practically all week, I ended up being riveted to it. I uploaded photos of Sara's wedding to the 'Net and ended up in a few IM chats. Couldn't get the motivation to update LJ, ha.
So that's the dilly-yo with me lately.
