Having been living together for so long, the members had made a schedule that designated who was to do each chore when. Due to a majority of the members' penchant for sticking cups of ramyeon in the microwave and calling that dinner, Ryeowook had been assigned to cook their meals every other day in order to give the boys some amount of proper nutrition during the week.
So on a Thursday night, Ryeowook stood at the stove stirring the doenjang jjigae that Kyuhyun had demanded be served that night because he apparently viciously beat Eunhyuk and Yesung at Super Smash Brothers, yet again, and deserved a reward. Ryeowook scurried to the refrigerator to get the vegetables and when he turned back, he saw Leeteuk walking into the kitchen.
"Good evening, hyung," Ryeowook greeted cheerfully as he walked back to the counter to chop the vegetables. Leeteuk returned the greeting, and walked past Ryeowook towards the refrigerator he had just closed, most likely to get whatever Donghae had forgotten to pick up at the market for their own floor.
A few moments passed by in comfortable silence, the sound of the spoon grazing the bottom of the pot the only noise heard, not that Ryeowook minded the lack of conversation. Leeteuk was known for getting lost in his own thoughts, even if he was talking animatedly a few moments before or out shopping with someone. It would not be surprising if Leeteuk was just standing in front of the refrigerator and staring at the white facade with his eyes glazed over.
"I'm so glad you're here, Ryeowook-gun," Leeteuk finally said, causing Ryeowook to look over at his leader. Their eyes met and Ryeowook smiled at the sentiment before lifting the spoon to his lips to taste the jjigae. "It makes me feel better knowing you'll be taking care of them when I can't."
Ryeowook promptly choked on the soup, and felt the hot liquid catch in his throat and rise into his nose simultaneously. He quickly caught himself, sputtering and thumping himself on the chest, but felt the heat claw at his throat. When he felt Leeteuk's hand firmly pat his back to encourage him to cough, Ryeowook noticed that his eyes had begun to water.
"There you go," Leeteuk said when Ryeowook finally stopped coughing. "I won't be eating dinner here tonight, so I'll see you later." He rubbed Ryeowook's back, the heat from the friction and Leeteuk's hand permeating through the singer's shirt that instantly comforting the younger man so when it disappeared, Ryeowook felt this frantic despair from his chest silently beg for its return. "Take care."
Ryeowook didn't even look at the older man as he left the kitchen. It wasn't until he heard the door shut close after he left that Ryeowook remembered to greet him in return. "You too."
Later that night at dinner, Kyuhyun asks Ryeowook if anything is wrong because his jjigae is a lot saltier than usual.
