Choir
Just received an email from our choir committee with a letter from our director, Tom, attached saying that he's probably going to giving his notice and standing down in September. He has really good reasons for doing so - great job offer, better work/life balance etc. but I'm really gutted. He's the best director/conductor I've known and he makes choir such a lot of fun as well as getting the best out of us. I think the chance of finding someone as good is slim, plus we have our 40th anniversary year coming up with lots of things planned, some of which have involved quite a large financial commitment by the choir.
I think the atmosphere at rehearsal tomorrow will be fairly despondent. Apparently the previous director was rather disinterested and I would imagine many people will be worried about experiencing that again. We also had a guest conductor one week whilst Tom was away and he was so patronising that quite a few folk left at coffee break.
Oh well, we'll see. It's just that I'm enjoying choir so much and don't relish the possibility of the experience being changed for the worse.
