Spike Issue 1

Okay, so I'm reading this thing, and I'm going to give bullet point thoughts as I go along.

*Okay, Spike drinking and moping, nothing unusual about that.  But "It'll always be darkness for me, luv.  My sort can't take the light, can they?" is incredibly ironic.  If we're talking literal, than yes.  If we're talking metaphorical--Spike's never been the sort to hide from the truth, has he?  No, that's Buffy's M.O.

*Come to think of it, I agree with the bugs (and I'm visualizing them as having the voice of comedians, such as Sarah Silverman, Will Ferrel and others, so that I fan enjoy them more)--I don't like this regression of Spike.  He'd come so far in Ats-5 and now...it's all about Buffy again?  Well fuck that.  She don't want you bro--keep it moving.

*Necrotempered glass--nice.  I like that the bugs did that for him.  It just proves there are a plethora of ways to circumvent the handicaps of a vamp if one chooses to do so.  Although Spike's been doing that since he walked on the scene, but whatevs.  I guess I just mean in regards to that whole light/dark unnecessary angst business.

*Side note: I really really miss Spike and Angel together...

*Spike's convo to Seb about the "slack jawwed masses" deluding themselves that a 100% perfect reality can exist sounds like an illusion to Buffy's dream of an Ikea dream house.  Hrm...

*In regards to Spike willingly buying into bullshit dreams well...I think that ties into the whole "love's bitch" thing, which makes him hopeful.  And I don't think his dreams are out of the realm of possibility, or even probabilty.  As long as it's not with Buffy because that was going nowhere fast.

*Spike closing the solarium that the bugs altered...I don't get it.

*Oh Spike--it's not "fooling yourself"--it's working with your limitations.  Adapting.  You've done it for over a flippin' century for goodness sakes!

*Pet peeve: Spike's voice isn't quite right.  Also, he wouldn't do so much internal monologuing...he talks out loud to himself often enough.

*Frog demon from hell and other amphibian...monster piratey things.  Okay.

So yeah, there was inconsitency with characterization and character voice, but overall, more interesting than s9.  Am I right, ya'll?

Speaking of, anyone read the latest issue where Buffy's a bodyguard or whatever?  Is it worth the gander?
