Dear Doctor Who fandom:
I’m done with you. I’ve been a fan of the show for over 30 years and I’ve never seen the amount of hate speech about one actor over the course of 24 hours than you have posted about Christopher Eccleston. You should be ashamed of yourselves. All your talk about ‘we should love all Doctors’ seems only to extend to every actor but Chris.
For 5 years he said nothing. NOTHING but ‘no comment’ and you bashed him for being silent. You called him names like homophobe, grumpy arsehole, troublemaker, opportunist, fandom hater, unprofessional, miserable twat or a hypocrite. Then he FINALLLY explains why he left and instead of being happy and moving on, you call him a homophobe, grumpy arsehole, troublemaker, pain in the ass, unprofessional, opportunist, fandom hater, miserable twat and a hypocrite.
He can’t win in your eyes. He’s damned if he’s silent and damned if he talks. What do you all want from him?
I believe you love to hate him. You’ve made him your personal fandom villain.
What I’m surprised at most is your absolute inability to read comments in context. I loved how one poster called him out on his comments about ‘the work is art’ and then made fun of his GI Joe appearance. (This is a very common comment. It’s easy to connect the two because of the comprehension problems) What Chris DID say basically called DW the art. He made fun of his GI Joe appearance calling it shit. He never said that about DW and equated it with an art form. Fandom should be flattered. But instead…you LOVE to hate him.
I hope he never comes back to DW because you don’t deserve him. I hope the BBC continually insults your intelligence and grabs all your money with merchandising. I hope producers, directors and actors continue to bully the crew so youget your 40 minute fix for 14 weeks a year. I’m sure all of this will make you happy. Now leave Chris alone. STOP HATING and go back to fawning all over your new people. You seem much happier in your ignorance.
