"We are better off for all that we let in"

After fighting anxiety all week I went for spiritual direction this afternoon, on the way back the silver birch trees by the railway line were blushing pink in the setting sun, the Indigo Girls were singing in my ear
Planets hurling and atoms splitting
And a sweater for your love you sit there knitting

I don't know where it all began
And I don't know where it all will end
We're better off for all that we let in

I felt OK. My shoulders felt OK. But Rainhill is a funny place to make a pilgrimage to.

Just outside the retreat centre gates I passed a young man in Franciscan's robes, I gave him my "passing another person on retreat" smile and he looked at me oddly, which was when I realised that although his dress marked him out as an inmate of Loyola Hall there was nothing about my appearance to do so. I am just a crazy girl who smiles at monks for no reason.

just my life
