palm sunday poetry

On Palm Sunday weekend I went on a creative writing retreat with last year's volunteers. We went to St Buenos, the Jesuit retreat house in Wales, which was covered in daffodils and beautiful.

Ann and Colm facilitated the weekend. Colm is our community partner in Glasgow and his wife Ann lectures on poetry at Strathclyde Uni. She was good. She brought a lot of objects and put them on a table and asked to take one. We then got fifteen minutes to write something about it and then we had to pass the objects round and got about a minute to write about other objects in a weird sort of poetry pass the parcel. My first object was a singing bowl and I wrote this. Which is quite pleasing to me considering how quickly I wrote it.

Empty
Emptiness
Filled with a worn off pattern
Empty, barren, hungry, wanting
Emptiness
Filled with a noise that creates emptiness

"I pray to God to rid me of God"
A bowl full of nothing
Waiting for something
Chalice

"a barren woman's child, which is a dream"
The dreams of Sarah, Hannah, Elizabeth…
…resonate
Dreams are brought to birth
in a fertile land

writing, just my life
