I feel like a fucking android; after I cut off all my hair

Repulsed by the newness of your skin,
& the way I crawl right in,
It's attraction - you're my Satan - over my shoulder,
& my mother's latest fear

I'm returned, like a needle to your womb,
I can never leave this room,
It's attraction - you're my Satan - over roses,
You're my mother's latest fear.

Repulsed, by the newness of your skin,
& the way I crawl right in,
It's attraction, of my Satan, my brother.
And my mother's latest fear.. - Magic Dirt, Mother's Latest Fear

NYE // MAGIC DIRT @ THE ESPY

Rocking up at the St Kilda Beach/Espy early to avoid the problems of finding transport later was a bad idea. It was full of fucking asshole morons who went there just to pick up - the most memorable of the night being a member of the Liberal party who just wouldn't leave me alone cos he wanted a root, despite the fact that I kept saying I'm part of a group that will one day mean the demise of the ruling classs (what he wants to be part of). It was also full of idiot Airbourne, aka poseur ACDC (as if one wasn't bad enough!) fans. These were the sorta people who cheered when the lead, Axl-Rose clone singer proclaimed "I want all you women out here to fuck me tonight! All we want is easy women! Rock on, sluts! We love you". Ugh. Cliched, misogynistic macho bands who still think the hair genre is happening - how original! There was no air conditioning so everyone was literally dripping sweat. It was the hottest I've ever been in my life! & bored. Yuppies are such a yawn. The only guy I bothered to make friends with all night was this cool Greens guy. We talked politics for ages. He was nice enough, & kinda cute. I think he wanted to get in my pants too, but I made it clear that I was too damn sweaty & dehydrated to have random sex with some stranger. It was just too fucking hot to have the energy to pick up last night.

But finally it was time for Magic Dirt. I pushed my way right up to the front of the stage - yehe! They were awesome, like always. God, I fucking respect Adalita so much. As I told her when I bumped into her at Dixons, she is so empowering! It's inspiring to watch her -- so fucking angry! Yet she can still have a good time & not take herself too seriously. It was 50 degrees on stage but she still rocked out more than ever, & also proclaimed: "We need a revolution guys, we need change. 2006 will be your year to do it!". Her onstage banter was much more entertaining than that of the moronic Airbourne frontman who thinks all women are sex objects. She came right up & played infront of me so many times, moshing with me & the guy near me, flipping her hair in our faces. Dean also did Fairy Park which went off. Towards the end, she climbed off the stage right where I was, & onto the floor that was swimming with sweaty fans squashed in like sardines. She stood there next to me in the pit singing! I smiled so wide, singing along & bowing down at her. Then she proceeded to do a walk/crawl/climb through the entire crowd, asking each person how their night has been! Nobody tried to grope her or take off her clothes. The guys looked out for her that she didn't get hurt, holding up her lead so it wouldn't get tangled. It was nice to see that she wasn't sexually objectified the way other frontwomen are in the US & UK when they go out into the crowd.

It was euphoria when they played my favourite song at the moment, Mother's Latest Fear. I've listened to this song inside out in the past 6 months, it's accompanied me through drunken nights through all the shit that's happened. It was so beautiful that everyone in the room was dripping in sweat from all moshing, but then all paused & turned silent, eyes closed in a vigil-like state about their lost souls that the song captures beautifully. Silent to listen to the melancholy lyrics & offkey singing that pierced through us all like electricity, accompanied by sonic feedback that Dean & Raul made, slouched over like wiltered flowers dropping over their instruments like they were two seconds away from fainting. The feedback went for ages & Adalita, completely fucked at this point, rolled around the stage & unleashed a series of delayed screams. It was so awesome. I got the setlist & Adam's broken drumsticks.

After the show I left at about 2am to get back to the city, & on the tram this moron pretty much sat on me & asked if I "want to come out & play?". I was too drained to punch him, so just screamed for the rest of the tram to hear "play what? The only game I'd play with you is Dead Fish, only you'd be dead & it wouldn't be a game! Dream the fuck on, & get the fuck outta my personal space please". There's so many crazies on nye. So after blasting him he backed off, but I feared that he'd get his friends to bash me cos I crushed his ego once I got off. So I hailed taxi home. The driver was fucking great, the person I spoke to most all night. We talked politics, he's anti-war & anti-Bush. & he's coming to study at La Trobe this year ! He said he'll do political stuff with us. Yay! It was a nice end to a night that was largely populated by St Kilda yuppie fuckwits. But of course, still worth the endurance to see one of the best bands Australia has to offer.

I hope you had a nice new year everyone xx.
