Finally!

It's odd. I'm very religious about checking other live journals - there are 3 that I check almost daily, but I'm terrible about keeping up on my own! Not sure why other than I feel no one is really interested in what I write! But it is a way to get things off my chest and out in the open.

I'm on my 3rd glass of wine and I'm not even close to where I want to be. Where do I begin??? The convention I was in charge of was a great success - I was re-elected, received the appropriate accolades and made some wonderful new contacts and friends, but not necessarily in that order. It's nice being forced to perform, knowing I can do all of this. The hotel staff in Cleveland was great to work with and it was to my advantage that they were all young! It was similar to working with Christopher and his friends, although I have to admit, my son is still more mature than most. I wasn't on an ego trip, but I was pretty proud of myself in the way that the week turned out. I found out that it DOES pay to be nice and treat people kindly because you do get what you want! Because of that, I have several new contacts in WDC that I can call whenever I need something!

I just read my daughter's entry and I wish I was in Mankato so the two of us could go out. My 'date' is sound asleep in the chair-again. I know he works hard, but so do I and I would like something different to do. But then, I leave for Myrtle Beach in two weeks, I go to Omaha overnight in October, have a week in DC in November.....I shouldn't be bored but I am. Note to self. Notice how many times you have used the word "I" and not "we"?

My niece Andrea is getting married the end of the month and I'm thrilled for her. She is one of the sweetest people I know, next to my own children, and she deserves the best and she has found it in Tom. I've thought many times about getting married again....it was something I thought I wanted but now I'm not so sure. I rather like my independence and am getting that way more and more. I can look around and say "I did this on my own". I wish I would have done more of that before I got married the first time - like my children are doing. They have both done things and gone places that I'm envious of!

I feel really sad most of the time when I think of my relationship with my best friend, Dawn. she has always been there for me - especially when I was going through a really tough time in my life. She helped me stand on my own two feet, believe in myself and follow through with my plans. I would love to repay her and I know all it would take is spend more time with her. But it's funny -she's my best friend and I'm so jealous of her! I know she will read this and tell me I'm being ridiculous (or I would call it stupid), but she has a job she enjoys, her husband who loves her and she loves him (even though we know he's not quite perfect-honest) and they are so in tune to each other. I guess that is what I am jealous of the most, the way they are in tune to each other. That must be better than hot sex? What do you think??? Sometimes I feel very married to my job at the office - how many times have I heard one of them say, "you're not leaving, are you?" "You will help me, won't you?" "I'm so glad you're working today so you can help me" and so on. It's wonderful and I'm glad they appreciate me but at the same time, a little more excitement would be nice.

So....I'll spend the rest of the weekend finishing up my NASCOE minutes and getting ready for the trip to Myrtle Beach! Now I really AM looking forward to that - those people are really my friends in addition to Dawn. I have one friend, Kerry Smith from ND who treats me like his sister (because he doesn't have one). I'm the only one who knows that he plans to propose to his girlfriend while we are in Myrtle Beach either this month or this summer...depending on something - not sure what. He is like a brother to me - teases me and looks out for me the way I wish my brothers did or like my son does for my daughter!I do enjoy these folks.

I've also been getting some emails and phone calls from some people in Washington DC - I guess there is life outside of Minnesota?!?!? Amazing how we're not that different no matter which office we work in? It gives me a whole different perspective on what I do and why I do it.

Time for bed. Christopher, thanks for calling your mother today. I needed it and really really enjoyed it. Molly, wish I was there and I could be having my 4th glass of wine with you. Hey girl, we're hot and we're great. It's the other folks that are confused! Amy - my other daughter - the jacket is awesome, I won't tell you why God gave you those hips but the jeans will look great. I'm not too sure about the boots, but I'm not that cool. I'm sure Molly is a better judge than I. Personally, I could see you in the jeans and boots with high heels! Right Chris? YOu are one sophisticated young lady - you and my daughter.

To satisfy all of you - No. I am not drunk - just feeling good. Where's Johnny Depp when I need a pirate???
