A Tequila Sunrise Kinda Day

Oct 26, 2007 20:58

As most of you know I've been doing some major spring cleaning and moving around of the house over the last few weeks. Yesterday the last thing was finally packed away, the last carpet swept, the last piece of vinyl laid and the last piece of furniture moved.

Today was friday. Friday morning, when you are a night shift worker, is like friday night for an ordinary dayshift worker, so it was Tygrr's friday 'night' at the end of her working week. Her group of mates from work occasionally have getogethers after work for various reasons - tygrr's birthday, D's birthday, a sushi 'night'.. that sort of thing. This means generally there's food and lots of alcohol consumed - as it IS actualy their friday night, even if it IS at 7.30 am!

So today, having anticipated the end of my spring clean, I had invited some of them around for a breakfast party. I had offered to cook home made bacon and egg muffins. A girlfriend whom I had invited to join us suggested she would bring the Orange Juice. Well, bearing in mind that I knew the others and tygrr would be drinking beer, my instant response to the offer of Orange Juice was, 'I'll provide the tequila and raspberry cordial!'

To me, considering the mood of the occasion, Tequila Sunrises would be the perfect accompaniment for a breakfast party!

So, in due course our guests arrived, breakfast was cooked and booze was drunk. Everyone tried the Tequila Sunrises (which are simply tequila and orange juice - I like it with LOTS of ice - with a drizzle of raspberry cordial - this sinks to the bottom of the glass and creates the lovely two tone effect of the 'sunrise' for which the drink is named) and tygrr was most impressed with them. It literally knocked her socks off! Mind you, she had already had two beers on an empty stomach!

Well, much merriment was had by all. My girlfriend K and I stuck to the Tequila Sunrises - alternating plain Orange Juice and Raspberry cordial now and then as I did have to drive to pick up troll from school later - and we had much amusement watching tygrr and her mates having their sword fights. Yes, the foam swords were brought out and as the seats were within easy striking distance of each other there was much whacking, thwacking and giggling going on! Armchair swordplay at its best! I don't think they could have done it standing up, they would not have been able to stop swaying in the breeze!

While I watched the general shenanigans I was reflecting on how good it felt to really relax. For a long time I have not truly relaxed when I've tried to have fun or rest because it's always bugged me that there was work waiting to be done. Now it was all done and I could truly put my feet up and enjoy a well deserved break!

Not only that, but as I was not drinking my usual rum and coke I was not getting that dreadful caffeine buzz from too much caffeine. Those Tequila Sunrises sure went down awfully easy, as did the non-alcoholic ones too - raspberry cordial sure makes orange juice very yummy!

So tonight I sit here, still VERY relaxed, contemplating a long soak in a nice hot bath and the freedom to do anything I want tonight and on the weekend.

Right now, life is good.

It was definitely a tequila sunrise kinda day...:)
