It's been a long time since I felt like this. A long, long time. The daydreaming. The passion. The tingle of excitment running down my spine. The knowing that this time I would not come away unsatisfied.
It had been so long I hardly knew what to do, where to begin or even what I wanted really. Would I go too far? How far was too far? God who cares, I wanted it so badly!
So much has changed since last time. I've lived quietly for years now and felt like I had missed a lot. I could feel my breathing coming in rapid gasps. It was getting close now. Before I knew it I was reaching for the long hardness of it, the thing that would satisfy me as nothing else could, the thing that would lead to fulfilling my ultimate day dreams..... the.... door of the office supply shop!
Hehe!
And just what did you dirty minded lot think I was talking about?
From what I hear I am not the only writer who gets nearly orgasmic walking around a stationary store.
Ahhh, the smell of all that new paper! A book store does the same thing to me too. All the creative possiblities! The temptations! The ideas that just leapt to mind as I walked around the store!
Suddenly I turned a corner and there it was - the computer chair section. OMG! Dragon heaven! Now I know what Goldilocks felt like with the three bears' beds, only I had so many more than three to try out!
You see, I had to go there today to pick up a mat for under my computer chair, my current one having virtually fallen apart. Tygrr had also strongly recommended I pick up a new keyboard. I use an ergonomic one, one of those curved ones that help ease wrist strain. She had bought it for me over three years ago and it has done valiant service but had become a real clunker, straining my hands if I used it for long.
At the same time though I have been told I am a hard person to shop for. I have a birthday coming up at the end of the month and then Christmas not that long after, so my passion for all things office having just been reignited as I stepped through the Officeworks door, I decided to help tygrr along a bit and get some ideas of what I might want for birthday or christmas. So, I tested all the chairs that I thought might be good.
Ahhh.....bliss!
There was a lovely cloth one there - microfibre according to its tag - but it didn't have the lumbar support that I like. There was another cloth one that which felt VERY nice. There was a leather one too, not the cheap, hard stuff one gets in the $99 specials, but soft, luxurious and so, so plush....*sighs*
I didn't get to try them all, unfortunately as far too soon a sales assistant approached me and I had to confess my true mission - a mat for under the chair I already have.
I was rather stunned at the price but it does come with a two year warrantee for if it stars or cracks, so that's not too bad at all really. I am very hard on mats. When one concentrates the weight of a fully grown dragon onto five little computer chair wheels the mat underneath has a fair strain on it. I don't believe any of my previous mats have lasted past a year without cracking, let alone two, so the warrantee seemed a good deal.
While there I looked at their four port usb hubs. The one that came with the laptop died do I needed another as the laptop only has one usb port. I use a flashdrive and it is rather wide so it cannot be plugged next to another port or it blocks access to the other port, so I needed a four port hub that was square with a port on each side. I had seen them at Harvey Norman's but had hoped to find one cheaper elsewhere. No, Officeworks only had them in a row, which was no use to me.
Next I looked at their mice. I do like mice and have been in the habit of buying myself novelty mice now and then just for the sheer hell of it. The one I currently use is red with black spots and is nice and small which suits my small hands. Frankly the ones they had today were rather dull and although some felt nice to use, they were all too boring, so for now ladybug mouse stays.
Then, oh then, leaving the best for last, I went and looked at their keyboards, with a brief detour drooling over new laptops on the way.
Ahhh, keyboards, how do I love thee, let me count the ways....
Errr... *blushes*
Well, I 'am' a writer and keyboards really are the tools of my trade!
I used to like novelty ones of those too, having had purple ones and all sorts of neat types but as I spend so much time writing I have to confess I do like the ergonomic ones now I have had one, so I was rather limited to about four or five to choose from.
I ended up choosing a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard. It's rather neat actually. Although it doesn't have usb ports on it like my old Belkin one did, it's still rather good. It has a wheel in the centre of the split which adjusts the zoom on the webpage I am viewing. This is rather neat when you are going a bit bat-eyed like Dragons do in middle age. It also slopes the opposite from most so that my hands are not tilting up at the wrist, but angled slightly down and this has not been hard to adapt to at all.
I can change that tilt if I wish to, but for now I will leave it as it is just to see what I think of it. The keys are nice and soft to use although the space bar clunks a bit loudly when you hit it. The backspace and space keys are within easy reach which is no small consideration with small hands.
I could go on about its other features for ages but if you want to know more about them then google them. It will be interesting to see how it stands up over time. So far, having used it to write this entry I do rather like it.
After picking troll up we went for a short trip to Harvey Normans where I surrendered and bought the square four port hub that I had first seen. I had tried two other computer stores while I was down in the city with no success, so this one would do.
So here I sit, satiated at last.
My new mat is on the floor under my desk.
I have a brand new keyboard to help me along when Nanowrimo starts again in November.
I have a nice new four port hub to use on my laptop for those write-ins they always hold.
AND I know what I want for Christmas (looks longingly at the new computer chairs)!
Yes, yes it was good, better than I remembered it.
Sooooo satisfying!
If I smoked I would be sitting here now enjoying a nice cigarette it was THAT good!
