Some of them
will die.
That article
appeared on Jezebel not long after its sister site IO9
reported on the five-year longitudinal
"Turnaway Study," which found abortion to carry no more psychiatric consequences than carrying an unwanted pregnancy to term does and to be safer, even when late, than childbirth.
The IO9 article drew no shortage of harrumphing pro-liar trolls - mostly male - who understand precisely jack and shit about the effect of pregnancy on a woman's body or about the reality (versus the shiny-happy myths) of adoption. Oddly, they aren't flocking to the Jezebel article, nor to
the IO9 thread about the case in Ireland:A 31-year old dentist just died of septicaemia, in great pain, while miscarrying. Even though there was no chance of saving the fetus - and even though, ostensibly, abortions are allowed in Ireland to save a woman's life - the doctors could still detect a fetal heartbeat, so her repeated pleas were ignored. A doctor chose to let her die, robbing her of any agency in saving her own life, and every one of you picketing bastards helped her die. She was not a clump of cells, nor a pea-sized embryo incapable of feeling pain - she was a fully grown, feeling, sentient human being killed just so that some absolute strangers with no vested interest in the outcome of a private medical decision could sleep better at night.
If you cannot tell the difference between a 17-week old fetus and a 31-year old woman, you haven't the brains nor the compassion to call yourself 'pro-life'. You are anti-abortion, nothing more, nothing less, and certainly not the altruistic baby-saver you would like to believe.
Had I been in a better mood, I would be more tolerant of other's opinions in this matter. As it stands right now, you sanctimonious bastards can rot in hell.
Agreed, except I've long stopped being tolerant of other opinions on the subject no matter what mood I'm in, because they fucking kill women.
BTW, having learned nothing from their ass-whooping at the polls last week, Rethugs in Ohio are
pushing a bill that would make what the hospital in Galway did not only permissible but mandatory. (ETA III: Ohio, btw, is where a poster advocating rape is
something not to "make a federal case" out of, according to a prosecutor.)
ETA: The death of Savita Halappanavar has occasioned
furious protests in Ireland; commenters on that article say more are planned, as well as a vigil outside Belfast City Hall. Via comments at
RH Reality Check, which lists other women and girls who have died thanks to the fetus-worshippers.
ETA II:
A Catholic bishop takes this opportune time to open his yap about how Ireland shouldn't mitigate its laws governing abortion at all. Fuck you too, asshole. Have fun watching what's left of your "flock" continue to dwindle.
Unlocked.
