"Why didn't she say no?"

Sep 06, 2012 15:16

So
happiestsadist sent me this link, subject header, "This breaks my heart."

The OP's ex-boyfriend constantly hurt her during sex; after the relationship ended, her cervix was found to be ruptured. She would be crying, but she would just tell him to "go ahead" and "finish." He would regularly fuck her while she was asleep.

But she never called it rape: "I had no way to describe what was happening in the dark, no way to talk about it, no language to explain." When she wrote about it in a program for creative nonfiction, her douchey male classmate decided to include some callous "humor" in his critique of her story.

The comments are already full of MRA shitbags, some with track records on other sites, as well as at least one victim of "real rape" who thinks she therefore gets to judge that the OP was never raped. They scold her for not saying "no" to her boyfriend.

Fat lot of good "no" did for this woman who was repeatedly harassed on public transit, whose harassers went from cajoling to threatening in seconds, and who is scolded for not being "nicer" to the harassers. Fat lot of good "no" did for this victim of sexual assault. Fat lot of good "no" did for this victim of a family annihilator, who is also being blamed in comments for "making bad choices, or her kids.
