Last Monday I left for Charleston, South Carolina, out of LaGuardia airport in New York on a U.S. Airways flight (though I did have to change planes in Charlotte, North Carolina). The terminal was pretty crowded but as I looked around I noticed a blonde guy sitting by himself. He was sitting just far enough that I couldn't see his face perfectly clearly. I suspected it was Reed Diamond. I tried not to stare, but I think he noticed me noticing him because he kept putting his hand over his face.
I should have gone up to him, but I kept thinking it was ridiculous -- it couldn't be Reed Diamond. First of all, what was he doing in a regular airport terminal instead of a first class lounge? Second, nobody else seemed to notice him. Granted, he's at best a B-level celebrity, but you'd think someone besides for me would have recognized him. (Hmm, well, maybe not the kind of people that were going to the Carolinas.) Finally, the flights out of the gate he was sitting near were going to these little towns in the Carolinas and I couldn't imagine why he'd be going there. But according to Wikipedia, he went to the University of North Carolina, so maybe he does have friends and/or family in the area.
Aargh. Reed Diamond's Homicide character Mike Kellerman was the one who prompted me to apply to graduate school. He's one of the few people I can truly say that they changed my life for the better. I should have gone up to him. I'm such an idiot. The worse thing that could have happened was that it wasn't him.
