“And on another note can I just ask (and no, this isn't criticism just interest... and yes, I know this is starting a whole new conversation)- how is/will your learning about "how many people starved to death, or the IMF World Bank, or the paradigm shift underlying the foundations of the scientific method, or the history of knowledge structures" help contribute to solving the world's problems?”
To start with people will stop believing they are good Christians blessed by God, and that’s why they lead a charmed life. We will lose this evil arrogant belief we have a right to consume the world’s resources, and the unspoken racism/ classism against poverty.
While people still believe that donating a few bucks to charity, or holding ‘make poverty history’ days makes them one of the good people, things won’t change. People need to understand they are already in the wrong by simply eating and consuming in this society.
Everything won’t be ‘okay’ if people just turn off their taps and occasionally walk to the shops, everything won’t be okay because you did the forty hour famine, and you sponsor a kid in South Africa, not while you profit, and the corporations profit from a system that takes up about 80/90 percent of the worlds resources and land mass, and leaves people literally starving to death under economic bondage, which inadvertently is wiping out our rain forests, and fucking up our eco system at the same time.
Till that happens all the ‘do gooders’ and good caring people in our society will continue to live in their delusions and believe they are not bad people, and everything will eventually turn out for the best.
