All in all, I had a pretty good time this year. I had to show up at a meeting this past Monday which I wasn't counting on, so there was no mohawk action. The show was pretty good, Modulate was a good opening act but with a really limited repertoire. I had this image in my head of who Imperative Reaction was, I thought they were a noise act of some sort but they ended up being more synthpoppy than anything else. Not a bad band, the singer had a ton of stage presence. Combichrist was about as good as you would expect, he was able to work the crowd really well and played some very dancible tunes. The entire band had mohawks and redneck sideburns, naturally I felt a little inadequate because if there's anything I'm really known for it'd be my mohawk and facial hair. Which isn't a very flattering statement but we'll go with it.
The venue was super tiny, smaller dance space than Artworks in PBGH even. It was good though, the staff seemed to be cool with the crowd and the upstairs bar area was very chill. I will say I didn't like the idea of moshing on a bare concrete floor, I'm glad I wore my knee high boots because I can stand in them for a good long while but I still left with a sore back. It was an interesting experience to see Combichrist in DC, run into Tony and Dana and have it not be an Alchemy related event. I relived 4 years of going to Alchemy in one night with the aid of Messrs Johnny Walker and Jason Wolf.
I've always considered birthdays to be a more personal time of reflection than new years and I'm happy to say I looked back on my 24th year and smiled.
